The video discusses the logistics process of shipping cargo overseas by container from factory to delivery. It shows that factories produce goods daily and ship weekly using containers. After quality control, the factory representative books shipping with a forwarder, providing information like container type, pickup date, and locations. The forwarder then arranges vessels, trucks, customs clearance, and documents. Key documents include the bill of lading, which is issued when the container loads and acts as a contract of carriage, and the arrival notice, which informs the importer the cargo has arrived and lists payment details. The process ends with customs clearance and container yard delivery once payments are made.

The Sea Shipment Flow video discussed the overall logistic flow and the process from

loading a cargo container to overseas delivery. I realized from this video that some factories
produce goods every day and ship overseas every week by the use of container. And once quality
control passed the goods, the factory shipping representative send a booking to a forwarder and
the following information such as type of container, pickup date, loading and unloading place
and other information are needed to be informed. And based on the information the forwarder
prepare vessels, trucks, customs clearance and confirm necessary documents. These are the
documents that we already know as a customs students.
Bill of lading is one of the documents mentioned in the video. As I know from our
previous subject and to be specific, “bill of lading” is a transport document issued by shipping
line, carriers or freight forwarders. It is a contract of carriage that includes carrier conditions
such as limits of liability, claims procedures and contains transport instructions to shipping lines
and carriers, description of goods and applicable transportation charges. As what the video said,
it is issued when a container is loaded onto vessel.
The video also summarize the flow for easier understanding. It shows that when the bill
of lading issued to the consignee or importer, the payment of agreement has been settled. Then,
before a vessel arrive at the port “arrival notice” is issued. I have learned that the purpose of this
arrival notice is to inform the importer that their cargo was arrived at the terminal and it is
consist of cost of transportation such as terminal handling charges and delivery order fees that
the importer has to pay. After that, the delivery order release to the importer and clear for import
customs clearance, lastly it will be submitted to the container yard for the delivery of the cargo.
In addition, the video also talk about the customs issues or when paper work mistakes
occur, in effect of that the cargo cannot pass through customs clearance nor board the vessel.
Also some terminologies like container return, cut off, and closing time are need to be pay
attention. These are important with regards to quality check for containers and time of load/gate
in of cargo.
Overall, the video shows the advantages of having a single contact to complete logistics
to a forwarder and the importance of documentary check from loading to overseas delivery of
cargo, especially the flow of process of marine transportation.
