1. (10%) Assignment#1: Essay on What/Why Civil Engineering? – Write an essay on why


you enrolled in BSCE. What is civil engineering and its contribution and impact to society. (Soft
Copy/Encoded)

2. (20%) Prepare write-ups of the following: (Handwritten & Soft Copy/Encoded)

2.2 Current Fields/Careers of Civil Engineering

c) Geotechnical Engineering

3. (10%) Assignment#2: My Future & CE Specialty. Design a one slide PPT poster on the
following. Imagine yourself five years after graduation. Choose at least one CE specialization
and describe what you may be doing as a civil engineer. What should you do to pursue your
dream with respect to continuous learning, professional and skills development. Describe this
vision in the form of an essay or a one PPT slide poster. (Soft Copy/Encoded)

4. (20%) Civil Engineering Technical Visuals (CETV) - An infographics student project.


The student will be required to design a short video, slide show presentation or other form of
infographics (e.g. poster, brochure or a pamphlet) that presents the impact and relevance of
civil engineering and civil engineers to society. A specific theme will be given and the student
develops the concept and final product around this theme. Examples of themes for the CETV
project are: (a) CE: Building the Quality of Life, (b) Role of Civil Engineering in achieving the
SDGs, (c) Creative Civil Engineering, (d) Role of CE in Poverty Alleviation, (e) Lessons from CE
Failures, (f) The Future of Civil Engineering. (Soft Copy/Encoded)

5. (20%) PROFILES: “Profile of Civil Engineer”- The final project. Identify a practicing
civil engineer (Preferably SSCT alumnus, graduated more than five years or more). Conduct an
interview on his/her education, training, skills and present work and achievements. Final output:
A written report following a template and oral presentation (PPT, slideshow and/or video).
