Title: DC Analysis of a Diode using pspice
Objective:
The objective of this lab is to plot the characteristic curve of a Diode and
performing different activities given in the task
1. Simulate the circuit by using bias point setting and read the voltages and
currents. In pspice the current label is shown at the higher potential side.
Compare it with ideal and practical model and write your answer not more
than two lines.
COMPARISON:
In practical model voltage drop across resistor is 0.7V. But
here we can see that voltage drop across resistor is .718V.
2. What will happen if the resistor value is doubled? What can you predict
about the current and voltage across the diode?
PREDICTION:
a. By doubling the resistance the current through diode will become
half.
b. In characteristics curve we see that as the current through diode
increases the voltage increases. So when the current will decrease,
voltage drop across resistor will slightly decrease.
ZOOMED VIEW:
From above graph we can see that voltage across diode increases with increase
in source voltage. The increase is exponential up to almost 2.00V of source
voltage. After this point the change in voltage across diode is much less.
ZOOMED VIEW:
From above graph we can see that the current through diode is zero until the
4. Plot the diode voltage and current flowing through diode. Change the X-axis
to voltage across the diode.
5.
6. Now sweep the temperature from 0oC to 100oC for the circuit and plot the
Diode voltage. This curve shows that diode can act as temperature sensor.
Task 2: Now consider a design problem that you are given that a certain amount
of current should flow through this circuit.so you have to select the value of the
resistor. We can sweep the resistor and find the resistance for desired value of
current e.g 3mA.for sweeping the resistor first change the value of the resistor to a
variable name enclosed in medium parenthesis.then we need to have a default
value of resistor e.g. 1k.We need a component name “PARAM” that will do this
for us. Then in
DC setting use global parameter. Use range of 1K to 5K with 0.01K as an
increment. Plot R vs. current flowing through the diode. Use cursor for reading the
desired current.
