Create A Project

This document describes the steps to create a new project in SDL Trados Studio: 1. Select File > New > Project from the menu bar to open the New Project wizard. 2. Create a Project
This lesson describes how to create a new project using the New Project wizard. You can use the sample files for this lesson. The sample files for translation, translation
memories and termbases are located in:
...\My Document\SDL Trados Studio\Projects\Samples\SampleProject

1. Select File > New > Project from the menu bar. The New Project wizard is displayed on the Project Type page.

2. Click Next to base the new project on the default project template and go to the Project Details page.

3. Complete the Project Details page:

In the Name box, enter a name for the new project.

Select the Due Date box and specify a date and time by which the project should be completed.

Click Next to display the Project Languages page. This is where you choose the project source and target languages.

4. Complete the Project Languages page:

Do not change the default source language of English (United States).

Select German (Germany) from the Target Languages column and click Add to move it into the right hand column.

Click Next to display the Project Files page. This is where you add files to the project.

5. Complete the Project Files page:

Click Add files, the Add files dialog box is displayed.

Open the folder en-US located in the SampleProject folder. Select the Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation and the Microsoft Word files and click Open. The files
are added to the right-hand pane.

Click Next to display the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page. This is where you select translation memories to be applied to project files.

6. Complete the Translation Memory and Automated Translation page:

Double-click the English (United States) German (Germany) language pair. The Translation Memory and Automated Translation options for the language pair
are displayed.

In the right hand pane, click Add and select File-based Translation Memory from the drop-down list. The Open Translation Memory dialog box is displayed.

Navigate to the folder where you stored the sample files, select the ENUS DEDE.sdltm translation memory file and click Open. The file is added to the list of
selected translation memories.

Click Next to display the Termbases page. This is where you add and remove local and remote MultiTerm termbases.

7. Complete the Termbases page:

Click Add. The Select Termbases dialog box is displayed.

Click Browse. The Open dialog box is displayed.

Navigate to the folder where you stored the sample files, select the Sample.sdltb termbase file and click Open. The termbase is displayed in the Select
Termbases dialog box.

Select the check box next to the termbase name and click OK.

Click Next to display the Project Preparation page. This is where you specify how you want project files to be prepared. You can accept the default preparation
task sequence or create a sequence of your own.

8. Complete the Project Preparation page:

By default the Prepare task sequence is selected. This will perform the necessary pre-processing steps to your project files.

Click Next to display the Batch Processing Settings page. This is where you can review and change the settings used by SDL Trados Studio when performing
the Prepare task sequence.

9. Complete the Batch Processing Settings page.

A batch process is a process performed by the system on a selected project file or on the entire project. For example, the Word Count process performs a word
count for selected files and the word count results can be seen in the SDL Trados Studio views and reports.

To accept the defaults, click Next. The Project Summary page is displayed.

10. Review the project settings and click Finish to create the project. The Preparing Project page is displayed. It lists the processes that will be performed on project
files.

11. When all of the project preparation processes have a status of Completed, click Close to close the New Project wizard. The new project is added to the top of the
list in the Projects view and becomes the active project.

12. There are four tabs at the bottom of the Projects view: Project Details, Confirmation Statistics, Analysis Statistics and Task History. Click each tab in turn to
view project data.

13. Click the Files button in the navigation pane to display the project files in the Files view.
