Overview
This course aims to provide the participants with a comprehensive knowledge of
different types of pumps, fans, compressors, and associated equipment, such as bearings,
seals, filters, separators with emphasis on physical principles and clear technical
reasoning.
Objectives
To provide participants with the means to properly operate and support the rotating
equipment in a way based on the good acquaintance with the modern technologies
applied in this field, forecasting break downs are inclusive.
Learning outcomes/ competencies
Upon completion of the course, the participant will have the knowledge and skills
related to different types of rotating equipment, being able to:-
1. Understand pumps and compressors technology and performance.
2. Develop attendees’ skills and capabilities in operating different types of
rotating equipment.
3. Interpret the function of each machine component.
4. Implement startup and shutdown procedures of each machine
5. Build a maintenance program based on modern maintenance strategies and
techniques
6. Improve the ability of the participants to maintenance and troubleshoot via
industrial case studies
7. Gain more skills in effectively and safely execute maintenance

Day One
Pre Course Test
Module 1 – Introduction to fluid mechanics
Upon successful completion of this Learning Outcome Guide, trainee will be able to
master the definition of fluid and differentiate between gases and liquid properties.
o Definition and classification of fluid
o Characteristic of fluid
o Fundamental laws of gas and liquid.
Module 2 – Fluid movers
o Types of pumps and its application
o Types of compressors, fans, and blowers and its application
o Types of special effect fluid movers (jet, ejectors) and its application
o Pumping and compression methods.
o Pumps or compressors selection according to the operating conditions.
Day Two
Module 3 – Pumps types and components
o Pumps for different applications (Roto-dynamic and positive
displacement)
o Positive pumps and its components, pumping method, applications.
o Centrifugal pump construction and function of each component.
Module 4 – Compressors types and components
o Positive displacement compressors types and there construction.
o Roto-dynamic (centrifugal and axial) compressors and there construction.
Day Three
Module 5 – Auxiliary systems
o Function and operation of lube oil system.
o Sealing system
o Cooling system.
o Protection devices.
Module 6 – Pumps performance and operation

Module 7 – Compressors performance and operation

o Centrifugal and axial compressors operation problems (surge, stall, chock)
