Tech Note - WebLCT Incompatibility With Java 7

The document discusses a technical issue where newer versions of Java caused incompatibility with accessing local craft terminals through a web browser. It provides background on the issue and a resolution using a utility to run an older Java version and load the web interfaces. It also lists firmware versions where the issue is resolved.

Technical Note

Web LCT
Incompatibility with
Java 7 and Higher-1.00
BACKGROUND

Through an embedded LCT (Local Craft Terminal) program (WebLCT) a user can access and manage the
Harmony/FlexiPacket line of products. (Hub800, FPMR, and FM200/FM200i)

These WebLCT programs reside locally on each Harmony/FlexiPacket device and are accessed by using a
‘Web Browser.’ The ‘Web Browser’ will download and execute with a user’s local installation of Oracle’s Java
Runtime Environment. As of Java 7 update 51 Oracle has implemented new security requirements that
enhance authentication and authorization for Rich Internet Applications (Applets and Web Start) which includes
the WebLCT programs.
These enhancements essentially block the WebLCT programs from running on the user’s computer. (see
section Pop-up Messages when WebLCT Fails to Load)

These new security requirements are being addressed in the newer releases of the Harmony/Flexi Packet
products. (see section Resolved in Firmware Loads for load versions this has been resolved with)

RESOLUTION
To address this issue, DragonWave has put together a small utility that will allow a user to execute the WebLCT
code regardless of Java Installation installed on the user’s computer.

When first run the program will put a Java 6 update 20 distribution into the directory the utility is run from.

To execute the WebLCT code on an FP/Harmony product a user can:

 Run the utility by itself which will load the GUI

o Enter the ‘IP Address’ of the unit in the IP Address text box given and then select the ‘Start’
button.

 Run the utility with an IP address as the first attribute.

O ‘C:\WebLCT-JRE6_Utility.exe 192.168.254.100’

RESOLVED IN FIRMWARE LOADS
The issue is resolved in the following firmware loads.

FPMR 2.8 (May 2014)

R2.6.1 of Hub800 (Q1 2014)
R2.6 of FM200/200i (Q2 2014).
