PORAM Heating Instructions Recd Nov 2014

This document provides recommended temperature ranges for various palm and coconut oil products during voyages and at loading/discharge. It lists the minimum and maximum temperatures for palm oil, palm olein, palm stearin, palm kernel oil, palm kernel olein, palm kernel stearin, palm fatty acid distillate, palm kernel fatty acid distillate, and coconut oil. It notes that palm stearin and coconut/palm kernel oil temperatures may need adjustment for warmer climates. Hydrogenated oils require maintaining temperature around the declared melting point and increasing it before discharge.

Hydrogenated Oils Refer to note (c) below

Notes :
a. Different grades of palm stearin may have wide variations in their slip melting points and the
temperature quoted may need to be adjusted to suit specific circumstances.
b. For warmer climates, the loading and discharge temperatures for palm kernel oil and coconut oil are
Min. 30ºC, Max. 39ºC or ambient temperature.
c. Hydrogenated oils can vary considerably in their slip melting point, which should always be
declared. It is recommended that during the voyage, the temperature should be maintained at
around the declared melting point and that this should be increased prior to discharge to
give a temperature of between 10 Deg. C and 15 Deg. C above that point to effect a clean
discharge.
