DESCRIPTION OF TASK
A multiple-choice questions examination assessing:

1. Knowledge and Understanding of the Year 10 topics: “On the move”, “Electric cars - Are they
saving the world?”, “ChemiCool”, “Code of Life”, “Us - Past and Future” and indicated sections of
“Earth and Beyond” found in the Revision Guide.
2. Processing and Analysing Data and Information skills
3. Problem Solving

Please bring pencils, pens, ruler, eraser and calculator to the examination venue.

SUBMISSION DETAILS
• This is an examination with 40 multiple choice questions each worth 1 mark.
• 40 minutes (no reading time to be given).
• Use a black or blue pen only to fill the circle representing your chosen answer for each
question on the answer sheet.
• Apart from filling in chosen circles DO NOT DRAW ON THE ANSWER SHEET.
• Put a clear cross through incorrect responses and fill the circle of your chosen answer.
• Attempt all questions.
• Hand in both examination paper and multiple-choice answer sheet at the conclusion of the
examination.

SYLLABUS OUTCOMES
Knowledge and Understanding

CW1 Scientific understanding changes and is refined over time through a process of review by the
scientific community. (CW1 a,b,d,e)
CW2 The atomic structure and properties of elements are used to organise them in the Periodic
Table. (CW2 a-f)
CW3: Chemical reactions involve rearranging atoms to form new substances; during a chemical
reaction mass is not created or destroyed. (CW3 a-g)
CW4: Different types of chemical reactions are used to produce a range of products and can occur at
different rates and involve energy transfer. (CW4 a,c-e)

ES1: Scientific understanding, including models and theories, are contestable and are refined over
time through a process of review by the scientific community. (ES1 a,c,d)
ES3: People use scientific knowledge to evaluate claims, explanations or predictions in relation to
interactions involving the atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. (ES3 c & d)
ASSESSMENT TASK NOTIFICATION
LW3: Advances in scientific understanding often rely on developments in technology, and
technological advances are often linked to scientific discoveries. (LW3 b-f)
LW4: The theory of evolution by natural selection explains the diversity of living things and is
supported by a range of scientific evidence. (LW4 a-d)

PW2: The motion of objects can be described and predicted using the laws of physics. (PW2 a-d)
PW3: Scientific understanding of current electricity has resulted in technological developments
designed to improve the efficiency in generation and use of electricity. (PW3 a,b,c)
PW4: Energy conservation in a system can be explained by describing energy transfers and
transformations. (PW4 a-d)
