1.0 OBJECTIVE:

To provide a documented procedure for operation and determination of Lux.

2.0 SCOP:

This SOP is applicable to determine the lux level in production areas, raw material sampling
and dispensing booth.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

Microbiologist, Pharmacist, EHS Member

4.0 ACCOUNTABILITY:

Head of Department

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Switch on the lux meter.


5.2 Ensure the initial reading should be zero ‘0’ otherwise adjust the zero by using ‘zero
offset’.
5.3 Hold the light sensor facing toward the light and record four reading –the display will
show the lux value.
5.4 Calculate the lux value by using the formula E0= ¼ (Ei1+Ei2+Ei3+Ei4)= ∑Ei.
5.5 Measure the lux at 1 meter height from the ground level.
5.6 Record the readings in lux level monitoring record.

6.0 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA:

6.1 For production areas the lux value shall not be less than 400 lux.
6.2 For sampling and dispensing booths shall not be less than 300 lux.
6.3 For optical inspection shall not be less then 2000 lux.
6.4 Frequency for monitoring the lux is once in a month.
