General Remarks Sleeve Springs


Our medium-speed engine types 32/40, 40/54, 48/60, Vibration damper: Operating
58/64 are successfully used in ships and power plants time of sleeve springs
worldwide.

There are engines which have already been in service
for more than 25 years. Many of these engines have Concerns
already reached more than 90,000 operating hours. MAN Diesel four-stroke engines 32/40,
40/54, 48/60, 58/64
During their operation, diesel engines are subjected to a
certain stresses which inevitably lead to aging and Summary
wear. This also applies to the sleeve springs of the Subject to normal operating conditions,
vibration dampers on camshaft and crankshaft. sleeve spings reach a service life of approx.
80,000 operating hours.

Calculations and examinations have shown that the
theoretical durability of the sleeve springs is reached at
a component operating life of approx. 80,000 hours,
when a corresponding safety factor is taken into
consideration.

As a basis of this consideration, permanent engine


operation at 100% engine load without circumstances
having a negative impact was assumed.

Unfavourable operating conditions such as improper


maintenance, hydraulic shocks or the like reduce the
theoretical service life.

Recommendation
In order not to jeopardize the safe and reliable operation of the engines, we recommend inspecting the sleeve
springs of the camshaft and crankshaft vibration dampers within the scope of the general maintenance
intervals, replacing them if necessary no later than approx. 80,000 operating hours.
