General Description
The Programmable Logic Controller enables students to acquire the skills required to operate and program
modern PLC-controlled systems.
The Programmable Logic Controller is based on the latest Allen-Bradley® MicroLogixTM 1100 controller and is
fully supported by instructional material. PLC programming is achieved using the Windows®-based RSLogixTM
500 software from Rockwell Software®. Once the training program is completed, students use their newly
acquired knowledge of PLC programming to achieve PLC control of various industrial applications.
The course introduces students to the Programmable Logic Controller. Students learn PLC programming basics
and the most commonly used PLC instructions. PLC program editing and debugging techniques are also taught
through step-by-step exercises that provide hands-on learning. All the ladder programs are entered and
downloaded to the PLC using the Programmable Logic Controller Software, Model 3245-A.
The Programmable Logic Controller consists of an Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1100 PLC mounted in a full-size EMS
module. The PLC has ten inputs (four of them are 20 kHz high-speed inputs) and six outputs (two relays, two
FET, and two high-speed FET at 20 kHz). Each PLC input/output is hardwired to the front panel and rated 24 V
dc. The PLC also has two built-in trim potentiometers to change direct analog values in the PLC and two 0-10 V
dc analog inputs. A built-in 24 V dc power supply provides power to the PLC.
Communication with the PLC can be accomplished through the RS232-C serial cable, Model 3246-4, or through
an Ethernet network using a standard RJ45 cable connected to your network or a cross-wired RJ45 cable
connected to a programming computer.
PLC programming is achieved using the RSLogix 500 software, Model 3245-A. An embedded LCD screen enables
the user to display and access data directly on the PLC. This PLC also has PID and Data Logging capabilities, and
Pulse-Width Modulated/Pulse Train outputs.
