Objectives

 To gather the basic knowledge of electrical wiring installation and costing

for a residential building.
 To work out material cost after taking into consideration various allowances
given for different manufacturing operations.
 To determine the cost of tooling, equipment and accessories etc. to be
procured from outside.
 To calculate the total cost of a house for the purpose of power supplying.
 To get idea about the consecutive process of electrical wiring processes of a
house.
 To learn about different types of electronic devices involving household
wiring including their technical properties, different measuring parameters
and configurations.
 To determine the selling price of the product after considering profit to be
realized.
 Help to get in touch with modern methods of manufacturing and equipment
used.
 To work out labor cost after considering labor cost involved prevailing wage
rates.
 To work out most economical procedure for the design.
 To prepare schematic diagram for the electrical wiring installation.
Introduction

Electrical wiring is an electrical installation of cabling and associated devices such

as switches, distribution board, sockets and light fitting in a structure.
Wiring is subject to safety standards for design and installation. Allowable wire
and cable type and sizes are specified according to the circuit operating voltage and
electric current capability, with further restrictions on the environmental
conditions, such as ambient temperature range, moisture levels and exposure to
sunlight and chemicals. Associated circuit protection, control and distribution
devices within a building’s wiring system are subject to voltage, current and
functional specifications. Wiring safety codes very by locality country or region.
Developing an accurate cost estimate is the first step in successful electrical job. A
constructor who estimates poorly will ultimately fail, no matter how well his
technical skills. If he underestimates his costs, he will find himself either using his
own funds to complete a job or leaving the job incomplete or completed poorly.
Overestimating will put him at competitive disadvantage and cause him to lose
work to better estimators.
Estimating is not difficult but it does require practice and attention to detail. The
total price to install electrical wiring can be broken down into the following
categories: labor, materials, equipment, software, hardware, contingency costs and
indirect costs.
The following project paper is to provide information on estimating the installation
of wiring and cost estimating of the 1st floor of KUET Student Welfare Centre
(SWC).

Discussion

The following project of sessional on basic electrical engineering was to

make plan of wiring and coast estimating for the 1st floor of KUET Student
Welfare Centre. This includes eight offices, two conference rooms, three
washrooms, two staircases, one lobby and one corridor. As we have eight
office room we were very careful about illumination and air supply. And we
were also concerned about the two conference rooms, the corridor and the
lobby which was so exceptional. In case of conference room our main
priority was air circulation. For that reason, we have provided thirty-two
ceiling fans and eight 1 ton ACs (Air Conditioner) in conference room-1.
Moreover, we have provided twelve ceiling fans and two 1 ton ACs in
conference room-2. The main purpose of the project was to learn how to
make a complete plan of wiring and estimating the cost.

Conclusion

We have worked on this project with due diligence and now we will be able
to design the wring of a building and to estimate the cost with proper
accuracy while also maintaining the necessary standards of illumination, air
circulation and safety measures. Thus we shall be able to properly design a
building along with its wiring and the estimation of required accessories and
the cost for both acquiring them and installing them.
