Recount Text

Activity 1:

Discuss the answers to each question the teacher asks. Students can use the student's
English textbook to help find more information about the questions asked. The teacher will
display power points about related material and guide students during learning.

A. Definition
Recount text is one of the types of english text which tells about the biohraphies of
famous figures and events that have occured in the past.
B. Social Function / Purpose
The purpose of recount text is to inform by retelling past events and achivments in
someone’s life.
C. Generic Structure
Recount text consists of 3 parts:
- Orientation: It give the reader the background information as two why this person
is Noteworthy and should have biography written about.
- Events: It present a series of events, usually told in chronological order. Here the
writer might refer to a certain time on line.
- Reorientation: It consist of a type of conclusion with a comment ir the
contributions this person has made or a summary and evaluation of the person’s
achievement.
D. Language Features
- Biographical recount text uses spesific names of the people involved in the
biography.
- It is mainly written in simple past tense (the final paragraph could also include the
present tense).
- A biographical recount text also uses liking word to do with time.
- A biographical recount text desribes events, so it uses many verb or action verb.

General Sudirman wa a high ranking Indonesian military officer during the


Indonesian national revolution. He was the first commander-In-chief of the Indonesian
armed Forces, he continues to widely respected in the country. On 12 November 1945, at an
election to decide the military’s commander-In-chief in Yogyakarta.

The 24 years old Sudiman was chosen over Oerip Soemohardjo in a close vote.
While waiting to be confirmed, Sudirman ordered an assault on British and Dutch forces in
Ambarawa. The ensuing battle and British withdrawal strengthened Sudirman's popular
support, and he was ultimately confirmed on 18 December.

General Sudirman comnmanded nmilitary activities throughout Java including a


show of force in Yogyakarta on 1 March 1949. When the Dutch began withdrawing, in July
1949 Sudirman was recalled to Yogyakarta and forbidden to fight further.

In late 1949 Sudirmarn s tuberculosis returned, and he retired to Magelang, where he


died slightly more than a month after the Dutch recognised Indonesia's independence. He is
buried at Semaki Heroes I Cemetery in Yogyakarta.

picture below. Each group makes a recount text based on the picture.
