CHAPTER-1
INTRODUCTION:
The aim of this project is to design a twostory Building (G+1) for residential
purpose, taking earthquake load into consideration. Construction of such buildings are
possible only by going to a set of rigidly interconnected beams and column. These
rigidly interconnected beams and columns of multi bay and twostoried are called
Buildings frames.
The loads from walls and beams are transformed to beams, rotation of beams take
place. Since, beams are rigidly connected to column, the rotation of column also take
place. Thus any load applied any where on beam is shared by entire network of beam
and columns.
For the design of the structure, the dead load, live load, floor finish load and
weathering coarse load are considered.
The analysis and design of the structure has been done by using a software
package STAAD pro. We have adopted limit state method of analysis and design for
the structure.
In this proposed framed structure is planned to provide hall, kitchen, dining
with attached bath room, wide passage with good ventilation, lightning. Sufficient
wide staircase is provided to access easily to each floor and toilet facilities also
provided. The approximate area of the building is 1596.96sq.m.
In this building the analysis and design of the structural element like slab, beam,
column, footing and staircase are done with respect to the latest trends in technologies
using STADD pro software and with reference to IS456-2000&IS875-1987. The
drawings will be prepared using AutoCAD.

3.1.2 Sand:
Sand used for mortar shall be clean, sharp, heavy and gritty. It
should be free clay, slit and other impurities. It should not contain harmful
chemicals in any form. Medium and fine sand shall be used for the mortars.
Coarse sand shall be sieved through 600 microns sieve and used in mortars for
plastering works.
3.1.6 Steel:
Steel reintroducing bars shall be deformed steel of standard
specifications and shall be free from corrosion, loose rust scales, oil grease etc.
The steel bar shall be round and capable of being bent without fractures. Bars
shall be hooked and bent accurately and placed in position as per design and
drawing. Bars shall be bent cold by applying gradual and uniform motion. Bars
of 40mm diameter and above may be bent by heating to dull red and allowed to
cool slowly without immersing in water. Joints in the bars should be staged.
Biggest diameter bars should be joints by welding and tested before placing in
position.
3.1.7 Lime:
Lime stone shall be freshly burned of approved quarry. Like
should be fresh slammed. Un slaked lime should be brought to the site of work
and slammed at the site of work and screened through a sieve and the residue of
the sieve should be rejected. Lime small be free from foreign matters. Like be
stored and cover in a weather proof shed. Tank speaking may be done if specified
and like putty may be used.

cement shall be free from dust and organic matters. fineness modulus of sand
shall not be less than 10
3.1.9 White lime mortar:
The mortar shall consist of freshly slammed white like and surkhi
sand cinder of proportion 1:1,1:2,1:3, as specified. The lime shall be free Anna’s
and organic matters. Surkhi, sand or cinder shall be clean and in standard
specification. The ingredients shall be first dry mixed by grinding in masonry
mortar with not less than 180 revolutions by adding water to a uniform plastic
mix. For small work hard mixing should be done in platform may be done as in
cement
