Figure 2 The PSU-DC+24 and PSU-DC 48

1.1 Purpose
The PSU converts incoming voltage to 48 V DC system voltage. The unit
which is of the Peripheral Product (PP) type, is available for the following types
of voltage:

• 120 – 250 V AC

• +24 V DC

• 48 to 60 V DC (three-wire)

1.2 Variants
The following variants exist:

• PSU-AC (rectifier that converts 120 – 250 V AC mains power to 48 V DC)

• PSU-DC+24 (converts +24 V DC to 48 V DC)

• PSU-DC-48 (converts a variable input voltage of 40 to 60 V DC to

48 V DC)

1.3 Hardware and Software Compatibilities

For information about hardware and software compatibilities for the PSU, see
Compatibilities for Hardware and Software.

2 Function Description

The figures below are block diagrams of the PSU-DC and PSU-AC variants.

Figure 3 PSU-DC

Figure 4 PSU-AC

The PSU consists of the following:

• Input filter – filters incoming sine voltage to prevent unwanted signals from
radiating to or from the PSU

50/1551-HRB 105 102/1 Uen A 2005-05-12 3

Unit Description PSU

• DC/DC converter – converts the incoming voltage to 48 V DC system

voltage

• Output filter (EMC filter) – filters the output voltage to prevent unwanted
signals radiating from the PSU

• Control and supervision circuits

The PSU-AC also contains the following:

• Bridge – rectifies the incoming voltage

• Boost converter – draws a sinusoidal input current from the mains supply
in phase with the input voltage, enabling the power supply to have a high
power factor and low distribution on input current

The PSU:

• Converts incoming voltage to 48 V DC system voltage.

• Detects temperature alarms by means of an internal temperature sensor

located at a critical hot spot.

• Communicates with the Control Basic Unit (CBU)

3 Dimensions

The dimensions of the PSU are shown in the table below.

Note: The height and depth measurements of the PSU conform to standard
power subrack requirements.
