Using two planning strategies for the

same material
Tags: sales_order | erp | sales | consumption | order | planning_strategy

In some cases it is necessary to use two different planning strategies for the same material. For example,
a material can be planned using a make-to-stock strategy, however, in some specific cases, it should be
treated as make-to-order.

It is possible to create a strategy group with both strategies and, during the sales order creation, choose
the requirement type related to the desired strategy.

This document provides an quick configuration guide for this scenario.

1 - On the customizing transaction OPPT, you should create your own strategy group, choosing the
desired strategies. In this exaple, strategy 40 (make-to-stock) has been defined as the main strategy and
20 (make-to-order) is the alternative strategy:

2 - After that, the strategy group must be assigned to the material material master on tab MRP3:

4 - On the customizing transaction OVZI, make sure that the requirement type is determined according to
the planning strategy.

3 - During the sales order creation, go to tab 'Procurement' and check the field 'Requirement type'

4 - The default value is the requirement type related to the main strategy defined on the strategy group.
Checking the F4 help, it will be possible to choose another requirement types, related to other strategies from

the strategy group.

5 - It is possible to check which requirement type is related to each strategy on the customizing
transaction OPPS.

One last detail that must be considered before the implementation of this scenario. Here, we have used

one MTS strategy and a pure MTO strategy (without PIR reduction). However, If two very different

reduction. The following note provides a detailed explanation of this restriction:

OK, so if SAP determines which strategy to use based in the Req. Cust.

What will happen if 2 Strategies have the same Req. Cust.? (e.g. 10 & 11).

Hello

Sales orders are not relevant for strategies 10 and 11, therefore, both sales order will
use the same requirement type KSL.

Hi Caetano,

It´s nice blog, congratulation.

Actually I need a little advice from you.

I have a requirement from customer that they want to work with both strategy for the
same material as you described, but they don't want to set manually in the sales order
the alternative strategy.

The requirement is: The sales order have 10 kg of a material. The system will check
for instance that the company has only 7k. In this case, the system automatically will
order 3kg MTO at the procurement tab.

Have you seen it before ? Is this is possible ?

Thanks a lot

Hello Ruy

As far as I know, this is not possible.

Generally, when customers need to trigger procurement if the PIRs do no cover the
sales order requirement, they use strategy 40, however, this is not a MTO strategy and
there is no assignment to sales order special stock.

Hello Tallha

The logic is the same, just add the strategy to the strategy gorup and choose the
proper requirement type on the sales order.

Thank you for sharing a document.

I have a scenario where there is a multi-level BOM out of which

top 3 materials are Planned materials say A, B and C.

A is at the highest level of BOM, B is the next level and C is the

3rd level in the BOM followed by other SFGs and Raw
materials.

Where A is planned as MTO, B is planned as MTS with stock

consideration and C is planned as MTS without considering
stock. The requirement is we want to do Simulative Planning
and also Operative Planning. What Strategy group or group mix
would you suggest?

Regards,

Shoyeb
