I. Summary

Engineer Felicidad Lazaro graduate of Mechanical Engineering at Adamson University has

been operating in an auto parts supply for five years in Batangas. She inherited the business from

her father. Four years ago, she started teaching in Batangas Polytechnic College as a Part time

Instructor and a year after she became a fulltime faculty member. She operates the business after

his official hours at school. Her dedication to her duties earned her the chairmanship of the

Mechanical Engineering Department. Her boss(Dean) was offered a job abroad and resigned. As

a result she was named the dean of the College of Engineering. She thinks that she would not

accept any other jobs because of her business and she must take her job as a dean seriously.

Her first concern is to recruit well qualified engineers for five faculty members. After a few

weeks, ten applications were forwarded to her. The 9 applicants were fresh graduates with no job

experience and the other applicant was a newly retired government employee with no teaching

experience. She knew that there are good engineers in the area but they are not interested in

teaching and the currently employed employees are just waiting for a better job offers. A statistic

for 5 was given to her by her assistant and she was shocked when she saw that the College of

Engineering has a steady increase in the number of students. She was approached by two

engineering Professor, One was a department chairman and the other is a senior faculty member.

They were requesting for one year absence because they will take job for 1 year on a trial basis.

She declined the offer of the two engineering Professor. Then the two Engineering Professor

filed for an irrevocable resignations in the next morning.


II. Statement of the Problem

To formulate an immediate solution to the short age of teachers in her area of concern and

keeping the incumbent ones satisfied with their jobs and She is now contemplating on how

she will survive this crisis.

III. Alternative courses of action

 She should immediately make new advertisement and try to attract more engineers to

apply for the school

 She should search if there are qualified engineers inside the school who is capable of

handling the vacant position.

 With the increase of students she should propose the board if she can appraise the

salary of her employees and give them rewards.

IV. Justification

She should know that the increase of students means that the load of work will increase. The

salary must be appraised in order for the employees to have motivation to work and a reason

to stay in the school. By appraising the salary and giving benefits, she could easily attract

capable engineers around the area to secure the slots in the school.

V. Comments

It is normal for her to face this kind of problem. She was just promoted to dean recently and was

faced to a big problem immediately. It was a good idea for her to check the statistics of the

college of engineering for the past five years and conclude that as the number of students
increase, the load of work must increase. The faculty members might not be happy so she should

give them a reason for them to work harder and stay at the school.
