Year & Section: ___________________ Day & Date Accomplished: __________________
Subject: Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction Parent/ Guardian Signature: _________________
Activity Title: Hazard Maps (Check your knowledge)
Learning Targets: Identify the ten (10) provinces which will be most likely hit by an earthquake.
References Title: Deguzman, F.R., et, al. (2016) Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction. Vibal Group
Inc. G. Araneta Avenue., Quezon City.
Author: Deguzman, F.R., et, al. (2016) Page No.: 112-113
Main Idea

Hazard maps are essential in understanding the risk present in a certain area. It shows the different degrees of hazard
usually classified into low, moderate, and high degrees.

Example/s:

The hazard map created by the Manila Observatory

and the department of environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) shows the vulnerability and
probability of an earthquake in the country. In the map,
the darker the color, the higher the risk to earthquake.

The hazard map shows that with the exception of

Palawan, the number of earthquakes is distributed
towards all the provinces of the Philippines.

Activity/Exercises:
Directions: Put a check (/) the ten (10) provinces which will be most likely hit by an earthquake and cross (x) if not.

Activity Title: Volcano-Related Hazards (Do this! !
Learning Targets: Identify several hazards associated with volcanic eruptions
References Title: Deguzman, F.R., et, al. (2016) Disaster Readiness and Risk Reduction. Vibal Group
Inc. G. Araneta Avenue., Quezon City.
Author: Deguzman, F.R., et, al. (2016) Page No.: 133-139
Main Idea

Volcanoes bring about hazards that differ for each volcano. Their activities such as lava flow, ash fall, pyroclastic
flow, and lahar are some of the hazards due to volcanoes.

Example/s:
a. Lahar- is a mudflow composed of rocky debris, water, and pyroclastic.
b. Ash Fall- consists of tiny jagged particles of rock and natural glass blasted into the air by a volcano.
c. Pyroclastic- flows are high-density mixtures of hot, dry rock fragments and hot gases that move away from the vent
that erupted them at high speeds.
d. Ballistic Projectile- are basically rocks that an erupting volcano sends into the air.
e. Volcanic Gases- magma contains dissolved gases, which provide the driving force that causes most volcanic
eruptions.
f. Lava Flow- is described as a stream of molten rock that flows out of a volcano or volcanic vent.

Activity/Exercises:
Directions: Below is a labeled picture/ illustration of a volcano. However, some of the items are
missing, can you fill them in?
