As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
self-learning module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the self-learning
module.
For the learner:
This self-learning module was designed to provide you with fun and
meaningful opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace
and time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while
being an active learner.
This self-learning module has the following parts and corresponding icons:
Posttest - This measures how much you have learned from the
entire module.

A. 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 + 2 = 0 C. 𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 + 2 = 0
B. 𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 − 2 = 0 D. 𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 − 2 = 0
1 2 1
3. What is the LCM of the denominators of the equation − 𝑥−1 = 2?
𝑥+1
A. (𝑥 + 1)(𝑥 − 1) C. 2(𝑥 − 1)
B. (𝑥 − 1)(𝑥 + 1)(2) D. (𝑥 + 1)(2)
2 1
4. In what values of x does the equation + 𝑦−1 = 1 satisfy?
𝑦+1
A. 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 3 C. 3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 − 3
B. 0 𝑎𝑛𝑑 − 3 D. 1 𝑎𝑛𝑑 3
Solution
1. By looking at the equation, it can be concluded that the equation is a
quadratic equation.
𝑥 2 + 3𝑥 − 4 = 0
Getting the nature of the roots
𝑎 = 1 , 𝑏 = 3, 𝑐 = −4
𝑏2 − 4𝑎𝑐 = (3)2 − 4(1)(−4)
𝑏2 − 4𝑎𝑐 = 9 + 16
𝒃𝟐 − 𝟒𝒂𝒄 = 𝟐𝟓
25 > 0, and it s a perfect square therefore, its nature of the roots is
Real, Rational, Unequal
LESSON
Equations Transformable into Quadratic Equation
Steps:
1. Simplify the equation.
2. Write it in standard form (𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0).
3. Solve the roots using any method applicable (extracting the roots,
factoring, completing the square, or quadratic formula)
Example 1: Find the roots of 𝑥(𝑥 + 4) = 32
Solution:
𝑥(𝑥 + 4) = 32
𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 = 32 Simplify the equation.
𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 = 32 Write the equation in standard form.
𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 − 32 = 0 form.
𝑥 2 + 4𝑥 − 32 = 0
Solve the roots by factoring.
(𝑥 + 8)(𝑥 − 4) = 0
