Module I: Architecture, Components, and Basic Considerations
Introduction to process control system, control loop study, automation and its components, Internet of things (IoT) for
plant automation, Overview of Industrial automation using robots, piping and instrumentation diagram/drawing (P&ID), 25
modelling consideration for control purposes, Dynamic behavior of first order, second order and higher order system,
dead time process, inverse response process, dead time compensator, and inverse response compensator,
Module II: Feed Back Controller
Introduction to Feedback control and effects P, I & D controllers, PI, PD, PID control, Outline of the design problems,

Selection of type of feedback controller. Controller tuning, Time-Integral performance Criterion, Process Reaction
Curve and frequency response characteristic, Ziegler-Nichol Rule
Module III: Control Systems with Multiple Loops
Feedforward control, Feedback-feedforward control, Cascade, spilt-range control, ratio control, inferential control, 25
Interaction of control loops, relative gain array and selection of the loops, Design of non-interacting control loop

Lab Experiments:
1. Verify the characteristic of V to I converter and I to P converter
2. Perform and verify the ON-OFF control operation
3. Perform and verify the closed loop control for a level control system using P, PI and PID control
4. Perform and verify the effect of P, PI, PID Controller on Flow Control Loop
5. Perform and verify the Ratio control performance
6. Perform and verify the Cascade control performance
7. Perform and verify the performance of feed forward control
8. Perform and verify the operation of pressure control loop under P, PI, PID control
9. Perform and verify the performance of PID controllers on temperature process
10. Optimum controller setting using Zigler’s Nichols Methods
11. Perform and verify different Logic gates, AND , OR , NOT operation in ladder logic.
12. To control the speed of an AC servomotor by implementing controller using PLC ladder logic program
