Building Blocks of Theory
Building Blocks of Theory
A student can be exposed to new concepts or skills in any form.Once students are
exposed to new concepts or skills,
they need to process that new knowledge through exploration and practice.
This block is placed at the top because of its importance. Strengths in this block
help students to be purposeful and
self-regulated and to engage in goal-directed behavior. Ultimately, if a student
becomes a strategic learner,
he or she is usually able to compensate and adjust for weaknesses in other areas.
In thinking about the learning and behavior of students, the instuctor can identify
the specific strength and weaknesses area.
When the blocks are stacked together as a model, one can understand how a student
unique learning and behavior characteristics.
Many different combinations of skills are possible. The slogan "one size fits all"
does not apply to the learning abilities .
Educational therapists and/or other educational professionals can also use the
chart to identify and
target functional skills (foundational, memory, symbolic, and conceptual)
Summarizing what has just been learned helps students gain perspective and attach
new material to previous understanding
At some point in the learning sequence, it is necessary to establish the level of
mastery students
have achieved in a more formal way.assessments is the opportunity for a student to
learn from mistakes.
There should also be a process for the student to express what she has learned from
those mistakes
and to show that she now understands the concept. For example remedial should
hlelp the student
isolate the difficulty and practice the specific issue and assess the skill again.
Practice makes
perfect .
Why is it important?
Able to understand wwhat are the strong aand weak areas of learning so that
instructor can focused
on the wweaker areas so that the student can cope up with the other lesson .If the
student is
unable to proceed because of difficulty of the lesson, then th einstructor can
suggest the student to do other lesson the next segment of the lessonj.
the concept is like a step by step process of learning that the instructor can
assess performance
and ability of the learner during training.
