Biography of San Francisco de Asís (ca.

1181-1226)

Religious Italian born in Assisi (Umbria, Italy) in 1181 or


1182 and died in the same place on October 3, 1226.San
Francisco de Pedro de Mena.

Biographical synthesis

Young graceful, after being wounded in combat against


the city of Perugia (1202) began its process of
conversion: leaving her house, was first dedicated to the
care of lepers and then taking hermit's life in the
Hermitage of San Damián, the prayer. Having renounced
the family assets in 1206, it was during these years in
poverty and humility of Jesus Christ, until he/she began
to preach in 1209, clarified his vocation after hearing the
Gospel, Apostolic. Attracted by his message and way of
life numerous colleagues, joined him that necessitated a
trip to Rome (1210) to ask the Pope traditional approval
of nascent brotherhood, unlike a community of religious.
The new order (Friars Minor or Franciscans), headquartered at the Porziuncola in Assisi, quickly spread

Youth and conversion of Francisco Bernardone

He was the son of a wealthy merchant in Assisi, Pietro Bernardone, cloths and Pica Boulement, originally
from Provence (France). Absent Pietro for his business, initially the child was called Juan, but then his
father changed the name to 'Francisco' (in Italian, Francesco) in memory of the French origin of his wife,
thus becoming the first child to take it as a given name. He/She learned to read, write and count in the
same Assisi, at the school of San Jorge. His father, who wished to make of Francisco the future Manager
