BIG IDEA/ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS

Big Idea/Enduring Understanding guiding this unit:
All matter is made of atoms, and in balanced chemical reactions nothing is lost or created, the structure and bonds between the atoms simply change.

Essential Questions:
1. How do you balance a chemical equation?
2. What is the law of conservation of mass?
3. When chemical reactants interact, how do we determine what products are likely to form?

ASSESSMENTS

One quiz delivered twice - used to gauge student’s current level of understanding before the unit and then again to see how they’ve grown at the end of
the unit (the first quiz will not count against them and their answers will remain a secret until the end of the unit, but the final quiz will be used as a grade)
