Lesson 8 Activity 8.2

This document instructs students to create their own trophic pyramid using a food chain like "Tuna Sandwich". It provides an example pyramid with Bangus (milkfish) as the tertiary consumer. The pyramid shows that for every 1/2 kg of fried Bangus eaten by humans, 1 kg of fried Bangus is needed which consumed 10 kg of Brine Shrimp as primary consumers, which required 100 kg of planktonic algae as producers. Students should follow the 10% energy transfer rule between each trophic level.

ACTIVITY 8.

2
Make your own energy flow in trophic pyramid using any products just like the one below “Tuna Sandwich”. You should
introduce rule 10% energy from an organism is transferred to its consumer, you can also represent it by the pyramid.

FRIED BANGUS
IV. TERTIARY CONSUMERS – HUMANS
One half of a kilogram of
fried bangus consumed
during dinner

III. SECONDARY CONSUMERS – MILKFISH

For one kilogram of fried
bangus

II. PRIMARY CONSUMERS – BRINE SHRIMP

(BANGUS)
About 10 kilograms of brine
shrimp must be consumed by
the bangus

I. PRODUCERS – PLANKTONIC ALGAE

And approximately 100
kilograms of planktonic
algae must be consumed by
the brine shrimp
