Jessica E. Laran: Distance Learning Learning Learning

Linear programming can be used to find optimal solutions that make processes more efficient while working within constraints. As a teacher, the author can apply linear programming to production planning for modular distance learning. Linear programming techniques will help plan printing of modules efficiently and allocate limited resources, like paper and ink, indicating areas for improvement. The school principal uses the process to make efficient decisions about resource use, like how many modules to print given budget and material constraints. Linear programming seeks to maximize or minimize objectives under linear constraints to determine the best variable values.

Linear programming is used to obtain optimal solutions for operations

research. Using linear programming allows researchers to find the best, most
economical solution to a problem within all of its limitations, or constraints. Many
fields use linear programming techniques to make their processes more efficient. This
includes my workplace which is the teaching field/area.

As a public school teacher, I can apply Linear Programming in Production

Planning of the modules. We all know that Department of Education is now adapting
the new normal Educational System and the most preferred distance learning for new
normal is the Modular Distance Learning. Modular Distance Learning is   a form
of distance learning that uses Self-Learning Modules (SLM) based on the most
essential learning competencies (MELCS) provided by DepEd. Basically, the teachers
are responsible to print the modules in each subject areas so it is very time consuming
in our part to print the modules and the same time deliver the modules to the students.
That is why Linear Programming will apply in this problem. The Linear Programming
techniques will help in the Production Planning to improve the efficiency of printing of
the modules and to make decision and allocation of limited resources and indicate
operations improvement.

To integrate or apply the Linear Programming, first is to calculate how many

students per grade level to determine how many modules will produce and to
determine the best way to use the available resources. The School Principal use the
process to help make decisions about the most efficient use of the limited resources like
bond papers, ink, printers, photocopier and etc.

Linear programming is used for obtaining the most optimal solution for a problem
with given constraints. Reproduction cost is the main constrain because with the huge
paper and ink requirement needed to sustain modular learning, our school's
Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) budget can't cover that and it is
almost depleted, that is why Linear Programming is the best way to help solve
something according to what we want when there are several constraints involved. It is
used to make processes more efficient and cost-effective.

The objective of linear programming is to maximize or minimize specified

objectives, such as profit or cost. This process is known as optimization.  It relies upon
three different concepts: variables, objectives, and constraints. Variables are numerical
or Boolean values, such as quantity of product to be produced or whether a distribution
center is open. Linear programming determines the optimal value for such variables.
Objectives, such as maximum profit, are a linear function of an optimization’s variables.
Constraints are also linear functions of an optimization’s variables, and are to used to
restrict the values an optimization can return for a variable. Constraints must be
Boolean linear functions.

Without a doubt, Linear programming is one of the most practical and application-oriented
concepts we come across in mathematics. When we have problem that involves a variety of resource
constraints, linear programming can generate the best possible solution. It's simple yet powerful
approach.
