Stat 101 Math 107 - Project

Students will work in groups of 2-3 to present a project applying statistical methods from the course. They will analyze a dataset of at least 40 observations on a single quantitative variable. The project will include creating a frequency distribution and graphs, calculating measures of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, and kurtosis to describe the shape of the data. The presentation format should include describing the data, objectives, methodology using these statistical techniques, and a conclusion or discussion.

Project/presentation format
Course Title: Statistical Methods
Course Code: STAT 101/MATH 107 A
Marks: 10

All students will be presenting their own report/project (application of this course) in a group
of 2-3 persons. Following are the steps:

1. Take a data set on a single quantitative continuous variable [taking primary data and
secondary data then no. of observation should be at least 40. Variable name unit of
measurement are important]
2. Apply the statistical techniques (descriptive statistics) studied in this course and
completely describe your data set.

Following are the steps:

 Make a frequency distribution, draw graphs and discuss the graphical shape of all the
data.
 Apply suitable measures of central tendency (also define the shape of data with
respect to mean, median and mode)
 Apply suitable measures of dispersion and first four moments
 Describe the shape of the data by suitable measure of skewness and kurtosis
 At the end completely describe your data in the form of conclusion or discussion

The format of presentation and writing report is:

 Describe the nature of the data and variable. Define your objective(s)
 Methodology [statistical analysis discussed above (in point 2)]
 Conclusion/discussion
