Q1. An infrastructure firm that has the strategic objective of “maximizing the return on its
investments” may put together a portfolio that includes a mix of projects in oil and gas,
power, water, roads, rail, and airports. From this mix, the firm may choose to manage
related projects as programs. All of the power projects may be grouped together as a
power program. Similarly, all of the water projects may be grouped together as water
program. Thus the power program and water program become integral components of the
enterprise portfolio of the infrastructure firm.
By analyzing the above scenario and keeping in view the organizational leadership effect on
project management activities, how the Project Manager can utilize his planning responsibilities
which can help in managing and controlling project risks? (04 Marks)

Barani Institute of management sciences initiates an IT project “Students Portal” and assigns
its development task to the ESS software house on September 01, 2020. Choose the project
planned value of your choice between 250000 and 300000, earned value after 6 month
between 200000 and 230000, Actual Cost between 300000 and 330000, Budget at
Completion 5000000. It was started on September 01, 2020 and March 20, 2021 was declared
as its tentative completion date. Answer the following questions.
a. Compute the Cost variance, Schedule variance, Cost performance Index, Schedule
Performance Index and EAC.
b. Project will be under budget or over budget

c. 1 project manager (PM) working at 50% of her time for the whole duration of the
project (monthly salary: Rs. 50,000);
d. 3 analysts working at full-time for 2 calendar months in each year on analysis and
requirements (monthly salary: Rs. 40,000 each);
e. 5 programmers working at 50% of their time for 36 calendar months on the
remaining phases of waterfall (design, implementation, testing, and deployment)
(monthly fee: Rs. 31500 each );
f. 1 maintenance engineer for the 24 calendar month to provide support to the client
organization. (monthly fee: Rs.25000)
Company is also responsible top provide the following equipment to the client,
10 GPU computers, 12 network switches, one application server along with firewall. To
compute the total estimate you may assume the equipment cost by your own, provide
explanation of your assumptions.
