1. Potential research questions that are driven from the client’s needs.
The following can be used by DMS Anlaytica as potential research questions to understand
the needs of WeCare Business School and provide suitable solutions to their problems in
order to give a better e- learning experience:
2. How are you expected to get the answers from the given datasets?
Question 1: The answer to the question can be inferred from the excel sheet. The places of residence
of the students, the sites they regularly surf and the series they watch, give an idea of their internet
connectivity.
Question 3: The answer can be inferred from the pictures in the “WFH Space” google drive. Most of
the students use laptops while a few use desktops as well.
Question 4 : The most preferred brand of laptop by students can be understood from the pictures of
their devices in the “WFH Space” drive.
Question 17: In the excel sheet with data of Students Background, majority of the students have
mentioned their favourite professor to be someone who is well-read and enthusiastic. This clearly
indicates that the professors need to introspect and change their way of teaching to infuse
motivation and enthusiasm during lectures.
The rest of the questions can be answered only after undertaking additional research.
3. Do you need additional primary data? Which survey type or qualitative method will you
use? Brief.
Yes, additional primary data is required. This is because the data provided in the datasets are
not enough to derive answers and gain insights to some of the aforementioned potential
research questions. Those additional data would be useful in giving inferences of questions
pertaining to the data subscription plans of students/professors, the familiarity of instructors
with the medium of imparting lectures, ease of sharing of study materials, the expectations
of students from the current online course, halts in classes due to technical issues, desired
class durations, breaks amidst long classes and whether or not changes are required in
teaching methodology of the instructors. Answers to these questions would be helpful in
gaining in-depth understanding and determining the setting of the class, factors affecting the
learning capability of students and the necessary modifications in the courses and manner of
instruction.
I believe web-based survey method of research would prove to be the most efficient way
for data collection. Rather than email questionnaires, I would use online questionnaires
which can be floated directly to the targeted clients. The reasons are cited below:
A. Online questionnaires are easily accessible and are the most cost effective way to
ensure a great reach.
B. Email questionnaires might go easily unnoticed in inboxes owing to the large number of
junk mails which might be present.
C. It is the fastest way of deriving required information.
D. Since email questionnaires are sent to people with unique ids, it is easier to comprehend
a particular feedback given by a particular person. However, online questionnaires are
designed in a way which guarantees the anonymity of people and the confidentiality of
the data provided by them. The disclosure of anyone of these two might greatly affect
the quality of information necessary to be extracted.
E. Anonymity in online questionnaires is thus helpful since – 1) good quality of information
can be derived, and 2) the response rate is higher.
F. The response is also quicker in online questionnaires. In case of email questionnaires,
people may choose to save their answers to be sent at a later date and time which are
mostly forgotten.
G. Personal interviews in the current pandemic situation are not desired since social
distancing is preferred by the general public due to fear of contracting the disease.
H. The targeted group of people might not feel comfortable to disclose certain data in
personal interviews (face-to-face or via telephone). Hence, the information obtained
may not be useful.
I. Personal interviews require long term planning since the timing of the interview has to
be set, taking into consideration the schedule of the targeted group.
J. The interviewers for personal interviews need to be effectively trained and supervised so
that they can derive accurate data.
