The lesson plan aims to teach students about union and intersection of events through probability. It includes reviewing sample problems on compound events, an activity to identify unions and intersections in diagrams, and discussion of real-life applications. Students will also practice calculating probabilities of unions and intersections using Venn diagrams showing students engaged in different sports. The objectives are for students to define and apply the concepts of union and intersection in various contexts.

Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10

I. Objectives
At the end of the session, the students should be able to:
a. Define Union and Intersection
b. Value the importance of Union and Intersection in real life
c. Apply the rules of Union and Intersection of a given data
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Probability of Compound Events: Union & Intersection of Events
Reference: Mathematics Learners Module, pp. 332-333
Material: PowerPoint Presentation, Chalk, Eraser
III. Teaching Strategies
A. Review
Direction: Fill the following.
A school canteen serves lunch for students. A set of menu
consists of 2 types of rice, viand, and drink. The tree diagram
below shows the possible menu combination.

1. Give the sample space of combination of rice, viand, and drink.

How many possible outcomes are there?
2. List the outcomes of selecting a lunch with pineapple juice.
3. How many outcomes are there for selecting a lunch with
pineapple juice?
4. How many outcomes are there for selecting a lunch with steamed
rice and with pineapple juice?
5. How many outcomes are there for selecting a lunch with chicken
adobo and with pineapple juice?
6. How many outcomes are there for selecting a lunch with pinakbet
and with an orange juice?
7. What is the probability that the student chose pineapple juice as a
drink?
8. What is the probability that the student chose steamed rice and
pineapple juice?
9. What is the probability that the student chose chicken adobo and
orange juice?
10. What is the probability that the students chose pinakbet and
pineapple juice?

2. Analysis
In the activity, set A number 1 shows the union of numbers,
in number 2 shows the intersection of numbers. In set B
number 1-3 shows the union of numbers, in numbers 4-6
shows the intersection of numbers.
3. Abstraction
 Based on the facts given, do you have an idea what is
union?
- Union is a set that contains every element of the
subsets.
 Do you have an idea what is intersection?
- Intersection is a set that contains element of both
subsets.
IV. Application
Values Integration: How can we relate union and intersection in our
real life scenarios?
Direction: Find what is asked.
