The document discusses developing effective research aims and objectives. It covers: 1) The importance of clearly defining research objectives to depict the goal and scope of the project. 2) How to develop objectives through thorough analysis and review to address key issues. Common errors include vague statements, mixing objectives and questions, and improper formatting. 3) Research objectives should guide method choices like participant demographics and data collection tools. 4) Exploratory studies require general, open-ended objectives to allow unexpected findings to emerge qualitatively in preliminary research.

NOTES ON DEVELOPING RESEARCH AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
Topics covered in the pdf file made available to us were
1. Why research objectives is important 2. How to develop and write good research objectives and questions 3. Common errors when writing research objectives 4. Linking research objectives to research methods 5. Developing research objectives for exploratory studies.
1. WHY RESEARCH OBJECTIVES IS IMPORTANT
Defining the core objectives and aims of a research project is an essential part of the research. It depicts what the main goal of the research is or what the research seeks to achieve in general. It includes the research topic, questions or problems the research project will address, as well as how the project will address these problems. It also clearly defines the projects research aims and objectives.
2. HOW TO DEVELOP AND WRITE GOOD RESEARCH OBJECTIVES AND
QUESTIONS Simple and clear statements do not usually give the reader the accurate concept or scope of the research, it is a gradual process which in the end results in a fully comprehensible and efficient gathering of information related to the specific study. Before designing a project time is taken to think through and analyze the research and project aims and objectives within a time frame to avoid rush work or inadequate findings. Desktop studies as well as live studies help in analyzing what key issues to address and to better understand the literature of the topic to effectively conceptualize research aims and objectives The research objectives when directly linked to the conclusion of the review gives a stronger approach to the end result and shows how the information was built to the current state. Other ways to ensure that the research objectives and aims are adequate is to constantly review with friends and supervisors which will in turn help clarify and narrow the information to the most relevant ones.
3. COMMON ERRORS WHEN WRITING RESEARCH OBJECTIVES
1. Do not put all the information gathered in one paragraph, this makes it hard for the reader to grasp the initial idea of the study. Instead it should be branched out into specific related topics accordingly. 2. Each objective should be numbered 3. Another error is to not make vague or ambitious statements when writing down the research aim and objectives, this gives room for misunderstanding by the reader. 4. Mixing the research objectives and questions could be confusing and difficult to understand. It is advisable to alternate between research questions and objectives or address them both separately. 5. Last but not least it is not advisable to interchange the use of project and research ojectives as these two terms mean completely different things The project objectives is the practical approach used in getting the day to day work of the project done such as interviews visiting site and all within a time frame this is in contrast to what research objectives are
4. LINKING RESEARCH OBJECTIVES TO RESEARCH METHODS
Having a clear understanding of the projects research objectives will help make decisions on what kind of information to gather that will be of relevance to the topic under discussion such as the demographic groups to consider including in the study and the data collections methods to use in gathering this information. Knowing the relationship between the research objectives and research methods would in turn influence the choice of research methods to help meet the requirements of the research objectives or questions
5. DEVELOPING RESEARCH OBJECTIVES FOR EXPLORATORY STUDIES
Since exploratory studies are usually interactive and investigative research objectives would be preferred in an open ended way to aid in accurate gathering of information. For this the initial research study aims and objectives are not specific but rather framed in a general manner which allows room for any unexpected information. This way of gathering information is peculiar to qualitative research methodology when conducted as a preliminary study to a more detailed and structured study on emerging and current issues.
