Our client is in need of two (2) Systems/VBA Developers to assist with updates and
enhancements to various programs. They need two candidates with proficiency in Visual Basic
for Applications (VBA). Details are in the attached form and more info is below.
-This is a temp to possible hire role, for both candidates, after 6 months.
-Position will be based in the Operations department, not the IT department.
-Hours are Mon-Fri 9a-5/6pm
-Dress Code: Business Casual, Dress Down on Fridays
-Looking for someone with at least 2-3 years of related work experience.
-Candidates must be tested as part of the screening process. Required Assessments: Access 2010-
Super/Advanced User, Excel 2010-Super/Advanced User, and VBA.
Candidates must have experience with and will be tested on the following
proficiencies:
knowledge of the usage of single and multi-dimensional arrays within a VBA macro.
How to load data to an array, process it, and get the data out of an array are covered.
Boolean Logic assesses understanding of boolean logic and how it can be used to evaluate data
and inputs within a VBA macro and to make decisions on how the macro will proceed based on
the results.
Control Structures assesses knowledge of basic VBA control structures such as Loop, If and
Select Case and how these can be used to allow code to branch in multiple directions based on
different scenarios.
Data Input & Output measures knowledge of the methods, data sources and data formats in VBA
that can be used for input and output of data. For example, data can be inputted from a text file or
from user inputs and data can be outputted as a text file, an Excel spreadsheet, or displayed
directly to the user.
Data Types tests understanding of the various types of data that can be used and stored as
variables within a VBA macro.
Data types covered will include those used to store text, whole numbers, decimal numbers,
objects and collections for storing groups of items.
Database Connectivity determines knowledge of connecting to and moving data back and forth
from a database with VBA.
MS Access connection strings are covered as well as SQL strings used to execute database
queries.
Error Handling & Debugging analyzes knowledge of how to account for and handle various
errors that can occur within a VBA macro.
Methods for tracing errors and how to eliminate or otherwise allow the macro code to continue
processing when those occur are also covered. MS Office Interoperability tests knowledge of the
usage of various Microsoft Office applications and how they can work together within one VBA
macro running in any single Microsoft Office application. For example, creating data in Excel
and then outputting that to a Word report and then sending that report as an email via Outlook.
Procedures measures knowledge of the creation and execution of VBA macro procedures.
It also covers different options available for evaluating lines of code in a macro.
Properties & Methods tests knowledge of the properties and methods that are available for VBA
objects.
VBA references and object libraries will be covered such as the Microsoft Scripting Runtime.
User-Defined Functions determines understanding of the creation and usage of custom functions
to evaluate data specific to the requirements of the VBA macro.
Variable Scope measures knowledge of the lifetime of a VBA variable and how different
methods can allow a variable to be used in a limited or more expanded scope within a program.
