Aim: To study the sprinkler system of firefighting.

Location: Ganesh Market, Samarth Nagar, Baramati.


Date: 17 FEB, 2020

Introduction:

On 17th of Feb, 2020 we had a site visit to understand the different fire fighting
systems used in ‘Ganesh Mandai’ at Baramati. The market is a daily market consisting
of fruit, vegetable and other vendors, along with the presence of small shops.

The following firefighting systems are present in the market:


-Sprinkler system
-Wet riser system.

 Sir had explained the layout for sprinkler system and all the reachable
elements were observed and understood.
 The positions of fire tank, pump room and the hose reels, sprinklers were
explained.
 The existing fire fighting system for building consist of pipes, sprinklers , fire
hose cabinets and fire pumps.
 The building did not have automatic sprinkler system and hence there were
no smoke detectors.
 The components used in sprinkler system of firefighting their specifications
along with their installation were thoroughly understood.

Existing components:
1. Branched M.S. pipes along with upright sprinklers
2. Hose reel box 3. Riser system

Sprinkler system:
A system of protecting a building against fire by causing an automatic discharge of
water, usually from pipes near the ceiling.

Upright sprinkler:
Upright sprinkler is installed at the top of pipeline.it comes with an upper
water deflector, so water coming out of the orifice shoots upward and then
spreads in a circular pattern.
Upright sprinkler is suited for areas that are difficult to access, like around
beams, ducts and building and exposed ceiling.
