IRONING CLOTHES
What is IRONING?
 It is the use of a heated tool to remove wrinkles from fabric. The heating is commonly
done to a temperature of 180- 220 °C, depending on the fabric.
 Ironing uses heat energy, electrical energy, and mechanical energy.

Tools Used in Ironing Clothes:

1. IRON
 It is a small appliance used to remove wrinkles from fabric.
 It is also known as a clothes iron, flat iron, or smoothing iron.
 The piece at the bottom is called a SOLE PLATE.
2. IRONING BOARD
 A small, portable, foldable table, with a heat resistant surface.
 A long, narrow board covered with soft material and having folding legs, on which
clothes, sheets, etc. are ironed.

FABRIC IRON SETTING IRONUNG GUIDE
1. Acetate 1 Press on wrong side while
damp
2. Beaded 1 Place on plush white towel,
press on wrong side.
3. Cashmere - Do not press, steam only.
4. Corduroy 7 Place on plush white towel,
press on wrong side. Use
steam on front to refresh
crushed pile.
5. Cotton, Heavyweight 5 Press while damp.
6. Damask 5 Use cloth between fabric and
iron.
7. Lace 3 Use cloth between fabric and
iron.
8. Linen 5 Iron on wrong side while
damp.
9. Ramie 3 Iron on wrong side while
damp.
10. Rayon 3 Iron on wrong side.
11. Satin 3 Press on wrong side with cloth
between iron and fabric. Use
no steam.
12. Sequined Fabric - Do not iron, use light steam.
13. Silk 3 Press on wrong side. Use no
steam.
14. Velvet 3 Place on plush white towel,
press on wrong side. Use
steam on front to refresh
crushed pile.
15. Woven Wool 3 Use a damp cloth between
iron and fabric. Iron on wrong
side.
