Discussion Topic 3: Computing Models for Global Applications

I believe that global IS/IT projects tend to be better suited for traditional or utility computing
models and I believe that geographic scope of a project does necessarily suggest one model over the
other. One computing model cannot suits for the global applications. Depending upon the different
geographic scope, different computing models would suit best for the applications. Traditional
computing is among the most popular method for decades. Traditional computing or utility computing
model is a service provisioning model in which service provider charges their customer for specific
usage rather than a flat rate and provide the computing resources and infrastructure management
available to the customer[ CITATION SGa99 \l 1033 ]. Like any other models, if focuses on efficient
use of resources and minimize the costs. However traditional computing models works on physical
hard drives and website servers, and today world is moving towards the cloud computing models
[ CITATION PWa20 \l 1033 ].

Traditional computing model costs more for the global IS/IT projects. For global projects,
cloud computing models should be used to save investments on businesses. However, saying that
geographic scope does not matter, any computing model can be used. That is not right. There are
limitations in terms of geographic scope. An IT project with a geographic scope encompasses a
specific protected area, while some actions relates to the external of the project area. My opinion
about cloud computing model would be that it does not have any impact of geographic scope of a
project and can be implemented across the globe.
