Module 1 Discussion Topic 2

The document discusses managing existing architecture for IT projects. It states that as a project manager, they would first try to find solutions within the existing framework and look for problem-solving approaches rather than additional investments. If challenges cannot be resolved otherwise, additional changes requiring investment may be considered to ensure project success. Project managers are responsible for meeting goals efficiently and preventing cost overruns and delays, which often affect over 70% of IT projects.

Discussion Topic 2: Managing Existing Architecture

Overall success and responsibility of the project starting from initiation to closure of the
project relies on the project manager [ CITATION DHa19 \l 1033 ]. Project manager ensures that the
goals and objectives of the project should be met efficiently and according to stakeholders’
requirements. Project sponsors does not really prefer any cost incurs and prefer to avoid any cost
overruns. Project managers needs to be more financially savvy as the organisations are going towards
projects[ CITATION DJC00 \l 1033 ]. In case if an IS/IT project reaches the evaluating architectures
stage, and all the requirements are not met by existing architecture, I as a project manager would work
to find solutions within the existing framework. In my opinion, a project manager should have
problem-solving skills and instead of looking towards the additional investments, I would prefer to
look towards the solutions first.

IT projects oftenly costs more than 200 percent of the estimated amount and project delays
occur in 70% of IT projects[ CITATION Pro203 \l 1033 ]. Project manager is responsible to prevent all
these scenarios. I would look for the challenges and evaluate the root causes of these challenges in the
existing architecture and try to develop solutions to resolve these challenges and achieve the project
needs. However, in case if it is beyond the scope of project manager, and changes are required that are
concerned with the additional investment, then I might for that option too for the success of the
project.
