The purpose of this procedure is to prepare the sequential system on concreting activity the
desired product.

2.0 SCOPE

The procedure covers the work method of keeping for all concerting works as per specification.

3.0 REFERENCE

a) Contract Specification GTS / Z / 02 – 0004

b) IS 10262 & IS 456
c) IS 383
d) IS 1786

4.0 EQUIPMENTS

Mixer machine, Weigh Batcher, Vibrator, cube moulds, slump cone, CTM, Thermometer etc.

5.0 MATERIAL

5.1 Water:

Water used in concerting shall be clean and free from injurious amount of acid, alkalis, organic
matter or other harmful substance, which may be deleterious to concrete. Potable water shall be
considered, as satisfactory test on water sample will be carried out in accordance with IS-3025
and they shall fulfill all the guidelines and requirements of IS-456, Water shall be of same type.

5.2 Coarse Aggregates:

Coarse aggregates shall conform in all respect to IS-383 Aggregates shall from a source
approved by TE. Aggregates shall consist of naturally occurring stone (crushed or uncrushed)
gravel. These shall be stony dark, durable clean and free from adherent coating and other
deleterious material. Maximum quantity of harmful material in aggregates shall not exceed the
limit defined in IS-383. Aggregate testing shall be done as per GTS/Z/02/2004.

5.3 Fine Aggregates:

These shall comply with the requirement of IS-283 Zone IV sand shall not be used. Fine
aggregates shall consist of material resulting from natural disintegration of rock and which has
been deposited by stream, crushed stone, sand or grave the grading of the fine aggregate shall
be such as to produce the max conc. Density compatible with the desired workability. Fine
aggregates shall be from approved source only.

5.4 Cement:

The cement shall be ordinary confirming to IS 269. Test certificate of the cement consignment s
Shall be submitted to TE/GAIL and one lot of the cement shall be tested approved lab during
designed mix.

5.4 Reinforcement Steel:

Reinforcement steel shall be used in RCC shall complete with IS 1786.

5.5 Admixture

It shall be of approved make and shall not contained chloride or other corrosive agents.

6.0 METHOD

Reinforcement design is to be establishing based on workability, durability requirements given in

IS 456 for each grade of concrete taking into account the type I cement. Minimum cement.
Minimum cement content, maximum W/C ratio confirming to exposure conditions as per
specification.

Submit pour card to TE/GAIL before concreting and the same should get signed before start of
concreting.

Beaching of cement and aggregates shall be done by mass or it should be converted into volume
in consultation with TE/GAIL with specific request in writing.

Concrete mixing will be done in the mixer as per spec. The water to be added in concrete shall
be adjusted based on moisture contents in fine and coarse aggregates. During hot and cold
weather, suitable method to reduce the loss of water by evaporation in hot weather and hit loss
in cold weather will be adopted as per procedure set out in IS 7861.

Ready mixed concrete will be used wherever it is feasible fulfilling all the requirements specified
and IS 4926 – 1976 and approval to TE/GAIL. Ready – mixed concrete plants and transit mixer
shall be used after taking approval of TE/GAIL.

Concrete placing will be done by pumping / manually whatever it is feasible.

The compaction of concrete will be done by immersion type needle vibrator, which shall be
inserted in concrete in vertical position. Use of form vibrators is permitted where specifically
required. Vibration will be applied systemically to cover all area immediately after placing
concrete and will be stopped when the concrete flattens and takes up a glistening appearance,
the rise of entrapped air ceases, the course aggregate blends in to the surface but does not
completely disappear. The vibrator will be slowly withdrawn to ensure closing the hole resulting
from insertion.

Unless otherwise approved continuous concreting shall be done to the full thickness of
foundation rafts. Concrete shall not fall from a height of more than 1.5 m to avoid segregation.

Curing of concreting approved water shall start after 8 hours of placement of concrete and in hot
weather after 4 hours concrete will be cured for minimum period of seven days.

The workability of concrete shall be checked by the Site Engineer.

Temperature of concrete shall be measured and shall not exceed 30° centigrade at the time of
placing.

The prepared surface shall be inspected and certified in pour card.

If surface is not up to the acceptable standard necessary rectification / repairing shall be done
as per TE approved procedure on exposed concrete surface of foundation, beam, column, wall
etc.

All blemishes and defects if any will be rectified immediately after the remove of formwork.

Construction joints shall be provided as per the specification.

Curing and protection of concrete shall be done as per TE specification.

Cover to reinforcement shall be provided as per IS 456/APPROVED Drawing.

Pre cast concrete shall be done as per the specification.

Grouting shall be done as per specification. Water retaining structures shall be done as per the
specification.

Tolerance of concrete surface shall be as per specification.

Concrete work shall commence after complete checking of reinforcement, formwork, staging,
insert & other futures.

Formwork & de-shuttering shall be done as per specification.

7.0 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL

Testing of cement :
If desired by Owner’s representative. Cement will again be tested at laboratory. Test certificate
of each approved batch shall be presented.
Testing of aggregates:
Weekly or 100 Cum intervals (whichever is less) grading grading of aggregate will be tested.

Testing of water as per as per IS 456.

Testing of Concrete :
Frequency of sampling of concrete will be as per IS 1199, Page no. 44 & GTS/Z/02/004 clause
no. 3.2.4 & 3.2.5 steel cube of size 150 x 150 x 150 mm.

Workability of Concrete :
Slump Test will be done to check the workability of concrete.

8.0 TOLERENCE

Accuracy of Batching :
Cement, Aggregates & Water ± 2% by the weight of each ingredient in each batch.

No hand mixed is permitted. Quality of cover block shall be as per grade of concrete.
