Goal Statement
Goal Statement
1) Describe a situation in your life in which you have failed to achieve a goal. What did you learn from this
experience? (Max. 400 words)
There are few situations in which I failed to fulfill my goals but the most notable one is
when I missed to achieve my target in the collegiate 5k marathon way back in 2012. I am from
SSN College of Engineering, Chennai and there will be an annual marathon event every year. I
decided to participate in this event during my third final year and started with my preparations. I
use to woke up early in the morning at 5:30am and will go straight to the college ground to start
with my practice. It will be freezing-cold in the morning but the running track of 400m in our
college ground was the apt place for preparations as the precise distance is known and with the
time I get from my watch. I started practicing 2 months back and set my target to achieve a time
to better off from the previous weeks ones. I was doing good but sometimes I missed to get a
better compared to the previous week. As time passed, I was able to see a good progress in
terms of my speed. I set my target to finish on the podium when the day has arrived. I started
running in the race with full confidence and though some people passed me with speed, I kept
my pace and speed constant as my strategy was to start with a moderate constant speed and
sprint with higher speed during the final minutes. Slowly as the time passed and when I was
nearing the last stages of my race I started to better off the remaining people in the race.
However, I lost the momentum in the final stages of my race and was able to finish on only as
10th in the group of 60. I had a feeling like I missed on regular preparation. Had I followed a
training regime and diet, I would have progressed better. So a ‘never say die’ is required to be
successful in life.
2) You just entered the elevator with a member of the Applicant Review Committee for the MS in Business
Analytics. You can only speak to this person for a very short time on the elevator. What would you say to
this individual so that they would look favorably upon your application? (Max. 250 words)
Hi, I am applying to your school for MS in Business Analytics. I have worked closely with
Business Analysts in a couple of the Migration, Resilience and Scheme compliance project in a
leading British based bank in my Company and was well versed with the role of Business Analyst
in terms of Requirement Analysis, Requirement Elicitation, Daily catch up with Business,
assisting Dev and QA teams on the design and execution stages of the project. Due to my acute
technical knowledge and experience gained from previous projects, I found out requirement
defects at times and intimated the business and prevented slippages in the later stages of the
project. So, I feel that I’m the right fit and I am looking forward to my application.
