Guided Practice Worksheet

Graphing Linear Inequalities Using Slope – Intercept Form

Name Date Period Score

PROCESS:
1) Write the inequality as an equation in slope – intercept form.
( y = mx + b)
2) On the coordinate plane, plot the y – intercept: ( 0, b )
rise
3) From the y-intercept, use slope to locate 2nd point:
run

4) Draw a line (with arrows on both ends) through the 2 points.

 Solid line: ≤ and ≥
 Dashed line: < and >

5) Choose a test point to determine which area of the graph to shade.

6) Substitute the coordinates of test point into inequality & simplify.
7) If inequality is TRUE, shade the area above/below the line that
includes the test point.
If inequality is FALSE, shade the area above/below the line that
is opposite of the test point.

 Graph the following linear equations. Show clear steps.

Use these steps to graph the linear equation. Graph:
y > − 2x + 5

1st: If necessary, solve equation for y.

(slope – intercept form.)
**Already in slope – intercept form.

2nd: On the graph, plot the y – intercept.

3rd: From the y – intercept, use slope to locate

and plot 2nd point.

4th: Draw a line through both points.

**Greater than – use dashed line. 5
