PROPOSAL
SUMMARY
Local animal shelters are always on the lookout for pet supplies including
blankets, food bowls, treats, and toys. In attempt to solve this high-volume need
in animal shelters, I will be creating a GoFundMe for online donations, social
media platforms to raise awareness of the need and encouarge others to share
my cause with others, family, friends, etc., and hosting local bake sale
fundraisers to raise money to purchase pet supplies for a local animal shelter
on the island called the Ka’a’awa K9 Rescue.
This will take a few months to raise enough money to make a significant
number of purchases that will make a big impact on the shelter, but once I do, I
will use all proceedings towards solving the lack of the supplies in the shelter
and scheduling a drop off date by email to donate all the supplies. The outcome
will benefit the dogs in the shelter by improving the time they spend in the
shelter until they recover, are adopted and given a forever home.
STATEMENT OF
NEED
I am addressing the need for pet supply donations in a local animal rescue shelter,
the Ka’a’awa K9 Rescue. The Ka’a’awa K9 Rescue is a very small charitable 501(c)3
non-profit rescue organization founded in 2015 in Kaaawa, Oahu. They specialize in
rescuing dogs who are severely abused, neglected, and abandoned, focusing their
efforts on the Winward side of the island. They work tirelessly every day, to
rehabilitate and find loving homes for the animals they take under our care. They
are the only no-kill shelter on the windward side of Oahu. My cause matters
because it takes a lot to provide for all the animals in shelter care, and as you can
imagine, they shelter goes through supplies very quickly and are constantly in need
of donations.
The good my proposal brings is that my donations made to Kaaawa K9 rescue will
help animals in need and make a difference in their lives at the shelter. My
donation will be used to provide food, shelter, and medical care to all dogs that the
shelter helps on a daily basis. It is so important to help animals who have been
abused, neglected, and abandoned and provide them with a better life and the
supplies needed for recovery in order to find a new forever home.
I chose to help this animal shelter particularly because the Ka’a’awa K9 shelter has
faced many serious hardships this year especially. The animal shelter was severely
damaged due to flash floods and weather conditions, having to evacuate 5 times
just this past year alone to keep the animals in the shelter safe. They are currently
under construction trying to rebuild, make a comeback from the damages that took
place, and protect their animals but are in need of financial helps and supply
donations. I will be taking on and managing this proposal and all the work
necessary to achieve success in the outcome with the help of a few family members
.
I feel this issue has not been sufficiently addressed in the past because it is not a
well know animal shelter like that of the Hawaiian Humane Society. Many people
may not even know of the shelter therefore it is not receiving enough supprt. I only
discovered it a couple of months ago. However, I believe this task is manageable

PROJECT ACTIVITY,
METHODOLOGY &
OUTCOME
I choose to address this issue in the manner that I have because I wanted to choose
something that actually interests me and something that I am passionate about. I
have to dogs of my own at home. They are blue nosed pits that just made two years
old in late January. I have always loved animals since I was young and have grown
up with animals in my home my entire life. I and am very passionate about helping
them in any way I can and seeing animals being treated poorly really encourages me
to act on the situation.
This animal shelter is small and not a commonly known one. I chose to help this
animal shelter particularly because the Ka’a’awa K9 shelter has faced many serious
hardships this year especially. The animal shelter was severely damaged due to
flash floods and weather conditions, having to evacuate 5 times just this past year
alone to keep the animals in the shelter safe. I believe that supporting and raising
awareness to this issue will encourage others to donate to my cause. My family has
previously made a few donations to the Ka’a’awa K9 shelter before but I know that I
can do more to help this animal shelter.
There may be other approaches to helping this shelter but I feel that donations of
the supplies they listed they are in need of is the best way to act upon the situation
in attempt to solve the continual need of supply donations for local animal
shelters/rescues.
PROJECT ACTIVITY,
METHODOLOGY &
OUTCOME PT. 2
The specific activities involved in the outcome of this cause is firstly and most
importantly, raising money and receiving donations to be able to make purchases
that will help the shelter. I will create an online GoFundMe to accept donations
towards my cause, host local bake sales in public areas on the weekends, create and
raise awareness on social media encouraging viewers to share with others, and
create a website to explain by work and give an area to donate to my cause. I will
update my medias daily to show evidence and progress on my work. I will also be
getting in contact with the Pet Food Bank and Hawaiian Humane Society to ask for
support/help on my project. Once I obtain enough donations/funds, I will start
making purchases for the shelter then schedule a donation drop off date by email.
Below is a timeline of what specific events must occur and over what time period
they will take place.
After all this is done in an effective manner, I hope to meet the high demand for
supply donations and that the shelter will have way more supplies to use towards
caring for the dogs in the shelter. I am the best one to do what I am proposing to
do because I am extremely passionate about this cause and want to be able to
make an impact on my community.
DISSEMINATION
I will sharing my work with the public and my community by creating a social
media account where individuals can follow up and see photo evidence of my
work as well as share it with others. I will also be creating a website that
outlines what my work is about, follows up on the progress of my work, and
gives access to the donation link. I’m going to reach out to the founder and
president of the shelter, Michelle Cooley, to ask her what I can to make the
most impact and what is the most necessary items needed at this time. I’m
going to reach out to local supporters that support the same causes who will
be willing to support my project.
Most funding with come out of my pockets but since the cost are low and the
project is primarily donation based, there should be no problem with running out of
funds in the future.
