Study of Single Phase Fully Controlled Bridge Rectifier With RL Load and Fully Controlled Mid-Point Type Rectifier With RL Load
Study of single phase fully controlled bridge rectifier with RL load and fully
controlled mid-point type rectifier with RL load.
SIMULATION DIAGRAM:
THEORY:
In controlled bridge rectifier four SCRs are connected in a bridge type structure as
shown in figure. Each two SCRs is provided with common gate pulse for faithful
rectification and for reduction of harmonics, as shown in figure. It can be operated
with both continuous as well as discontinuous mode of operation.
In controlled mid point type rectifier two SCRs are connected with different gate
pulses. There is also a center tapped transformer is used. It is used to distribute the
potential in such a way that during positive half cycle the upper half circuit will
conduct current and during negative half cycle the lower half circuit will conduct
current. But the load is connected in such a way that current will flow through it
both half cycles. It can also be operated with both continuous as well as
discontinuous mode of operation.
VOAVG : average output voltage
α: Firing angle
β: Extinsion angle
α= tan-1(ωL/R)
VOAVG= (2VMcosα)/π
IOAVG = VOAVG / R
VORMS= VM/√2
IORMS = VORMS / R

CONCLUSION:-
The circuit diagram and waveforms of fully controlled bridge rectifier with RL
load and fully controlled mid-point type rectifier with RL load in both continuous and
discontinuous mode was studied and all parameters like I ORMS , VORMS , IOAVG , VOAVG ,
input power factor and Values of firing angle(α) was calculated and compared with
measured value.
