A. COMPARISON
1. Fill in the suitable gaps with words in the box. Then complete the sentences with your
comparative or superlative adjectives. Make necessary changes where possible.

Describe a person who made you laugh happily when you were a child. You should say:

 Why this person made you laugh
and how you felt about it
Describe a place where people usually go to have fun. You should say:

 how often you go there
 what people do there
and explain why it is suitable for having fun.
Describe a joke that made you laugh. You should say:
 what the joke was about
 who told you that joke
 was it funny
and explain why this was an interesting joke that made you laugh.
Describe a funny situation that made you laugh. You should say:
 when this situation took place
 what happened
 how you reacted
and why you found the situation funny.
C. PART 3 – AGREEING AND DISAGREEING

1)Do you agree that laughing is important?


2)Would you agree that funny stories are easy to translate from one language to other?
3)Do you agree that people nowadays care more about their emotion?
4)Would you agree that jokes can be useful in learning another language? In what way?

Question: Some people say that one’s university years are the happiest time in life.

Answer: Yes, I couldn't agree more! I think that university life is probably the best stage in
life because we are free from the constraints of, home-life with our parents and
we get the opportunity to discover the world for ourselves, much more
independently than ever before. We can meet new people, study a variety of
interesting subjects and learn to look alter ourselves. So, I completely agree that
this is by far the happiest time in our lives.

To agree and disagree, you should:


Answer order

Decide what your opinion is about the question the examiner asks.

1. If you agree, you should:

State your agreement.

Give reasons why you agree.

2. If you only partially agree /disagree, you should:

Say to what extent you agree, then state your disagreement.

Give reasons to support this.

3. If you totally disagree, you should:

State your strong disagreement politely.

Give reasons why you disagree.


Language steps:

1. Use agreement expressions.


I wholeheartedly agree!
I couldn't agree more!

I totally agree with you!

2. Use total and partial disagreement expressions


I can agree with you to a point, but...
I can see your point, but...
I can agree to some extent, but have you considered...
3. Use cause and effect logic to support your opinion.
I can't possibly agree because if we do X, then Y might happen.
I'm sorry but I absolutely disagree. If people continue to do X, then it could be very bad for
society.
