FUNCTION, SOURC NEED AND IMPORTANCE • A critical review of available literature is important • To clarify the problem • To broaden the researcher’s capability of understanding • To improve methodology for study and investigation • To contextualize the finding of research study CONSIDERATIONS Important considerations in reviewing relevant literature: • Determine what has already been written on a topic • Provide an overview of key concepts • Identify major relationships or patterns • Identify strengths and weaknesses • Identify any gaps in the research • Identify any conflicting evidence • Provide a solid background to a research SOURCES OF LITERATURE • Relevant literature means all available sources which are published in any form and medium such as: • Printed books, journals, magazines, newspaper etc. • Online resources • Audio-visual resources (CD/DVD, TV and Radio etc.) TYPES OF LITERATURE REVIEW • There are six types of Literature Review: 1. Self-study Review: to increase reader’s confidence 2. Context Review: to place a specific project in a broad way 3. Historical Review: to develop an issue over time 4. Theoretical Review: to compare theories about an issue 5. Methodological Review: how methodologies varies for studies 6. Integrative Review: summarize what is known at present PROCEDURES OF LITERATURE • After selecting several relevant literature, the researcher reads these critically and note down while considering: • The existing knowledge is confirmed • Theories, their bases, methodologies are relevant • Examined findings are applicable in other situation or not • Ascertained little or nothing is known in the subject area QUESTIONS & ANSWER SESSION
