The document describes designing a voltage limiter circuit to limit the voltage between -5V and +5V. It defines clipping circuits as voltage limiters that clip portions of a waveform above or below a reference level, preserving the remaining shape. The designed circuit uses a 3.3k resistor, 1N4007 diode, and battery to form a clipper in Proteus. The input and output waveforms are then analyzed using an analogue analysis tool to verify the limiting effect between -5V and +5V.

Task : Design a Limiter to Limit the voltage between -5 V to +5V

Clippers :

Clipping circuit is used to select for transmission that part of an arbitrary waveform

which lie above or below some reference level. Clipping circuit “clips” some portion of

the waveform. Clipping circuits are also referred to as voltage limiters. Clamping circuit

preserves shape of the waveform while clipping circuit does not preserve shape of

waveform. Clipping circuit uses some reference level. Waveform above or below this

reference level is clipped. Clipping circuits are also known as voltage limiter or

amplitude limiter or slicers.

Advantages :

The main advantage of clippers is that they eliminate the unwanted noise present in
the amplitude of an ac signal.

A clipper is a circuit designed to prevent a signal from exceeding a predetermined

reference voltage level. A clipper does not distort the remaining part of the applied
waveform.

Clippers can be classified into the following two types based on the clipping portion of
the input.

 Positive Clipper

 Negative Clipper
Apparatus Used :
1. Resistor (3.3K ohm).
2. Diode 1N4007.
3. Battery.

4. Analogue Analysis tool

5. Proteus

Procedure :
1. In the circuit shown below sinusoidal voltage , resistor , diodes and batteries are
feed into the proteus and a clipper circuit is formed to limit the voltage.
2. With the help of Analogue Analysis tool both the input and output waveforms are
thoroughly analyzed.
