SPEAKING Part 1
SPEAKING Part 1
WORK / STUDY
1. Do you work or are you a student?
Well, I’m currently studying in Da Nang University of Technology, and I’m
majoring in mechatronics.
2. Why did you choose your major?
I chose it simply because I’m really into technology, and my dream is to be an
engineer one day. Another reason is mechatronics is a big trend, so I believe it will
give me a promising future.
3. Do you want to run a business in the future?
Well, I’ve never thought about it before and I’m not a kinda risk taker. I don’t
think I will run a business in the future.
4. Do you enjoy your major?
Well definitily Yes. On top of that I can work international boundaries and cultures
and expand my social network. Secondly, It helps me to boost my skills like
communication, working group, etc.
5. Do you miss being a student?
Sometimes, when I’m busy with work and deadlines, I recall the memories of
being a student. You know, we were all carefree and green at that time, it is a
precious time.
2
LEISURE TIME
1. What is your favorite leisure activity?
You know, one of my leisure pursuits is playing the guitar. I’ve played the guitar
since I went to university. I think it’s a fantasic way to just unwind after a long day
at work.
2. What did you enjoy doing in your free time when you were a child?
Well, I used to love playing football when I was young as well, I played a lot at
school. One in a blue moon I played hide and seek with friends in my
neighborhood.
3. Do you prefer spending your leisure time with other people or alone?
I prefer to have my alone time rather than to spend time with someone else. I'm an
introvert person so being alone makes me feel more comfortable.
(Band 7.0 -7.5) So I have acrophobia which is an extreme fear of height. So as
crazy as it may seem, I really want to try sky-diving. Because, you know, I just
wanna try something that is out of my comfort zone.
(Band 8.0) So in the future I would love to have a crack at extreme sports. It
sounds crazy, you know, but I want to give sky-diving a try. I think free falling
from enormous altitudes looks like a lot of fun.

FOOD
1. What kinds of food do you like?
I gotta say Asian cuisine is my favorite. I’m a big fan of bold flavors and spices
used in Vietnamese and Thai dishes. Something I often daydream about eating is
Banh Da Cua, which is a lip-smacking Vietnamese noodle soup dish served with
crab broth
lip-smacking: Rất ngon
2. Is there any foods that you don’t like?
I gotta say there’re definitely a few things that put me off. For example, Mam
Tom, which is essentially a shrimp paste incorporated into a lot of Vietnamese
dishes and recipes. And I think it smells awful. Definitely not my cup of tea.
Put somebody off: làm ai đó thấy ‘hãi’
3. What kinds of food are most popular in Vietnam?
I think street food is the real staple around here. You can find bustling food stalls
all around Hanoi and they are my go-to for a cheap and cheerful meal. And
gourmet restaurants are nice and all but you know, street food is what Vietnam all
about.
Staple: Đồ ăn phổ biến
4. Do you like cooking?
Well I’d like to think that cooking is my forte. I developed a passion for culinary
arts when I first watched the cooking show Master Chef. And since then I’ve
learned a lot of recipes and I can whip up a dinner really easilly.
Whip up: Nấu nhanh món gì đó

FAMILY AND POSSESSION
1. How large or small is your family?
Currently, I’m living in a nuclear family which consists of my parents, one older
sibling and me. We get on well with each other.
2. Who are you close to in your family?
I really get on well with my father most actually. Simply because we have interest
in common like watching TV or playing sports. Besides, he always shares life
experience, ideas and opinions about many things with me.
3. Did/Do you get well with your family? Why?
Yes, absolutely. They are supportive, positive, intelligent and caring. I must say I
don’t have any complaints. They care for me a lot, they help me in my difficult
times with their unconditional love. It makes us a perfectly happy family.
4. What sorts of things do you like to do together?
We always have a meal, watch TV together and it runs in my family. Besides, I
also go shopping with my mother or play badminton with my dad.
5
SPORT
Well I think I’m a big fan of sport. Although I’m not good at it, but my favorite
one is swimming. You know I can often meet new people and make friends when I
do sports. And as I think that, you know, practicing a sport regularly does wonder
for my health. It keeps me in shape, it helps to relieve my back and neck pains.
And last but not least, it refreshes my mind after a long day of hard work.
Well I guess in Vietnam right now, it’s football. I think football is considered
the king of sports. It’s very easy to play. All you need is just a ball, a few friends
and two goals, which you can always make or create by marking the ground with,
you know, piece of clothings or bags, for example. And I think it’s a competitive
sport, it can be very enjoyable to watch and play.
Of course. I think it’s essential for everybody to take up a sport, because, you
know, as I mentioned before. Playing sports brings great benefits to your health. It
helps to lower the risk of modern diseases such as diabetes, obesity and heart
attack. Anyway, at the end of the day, your body is the only place you’ve got to
live, right? So I think you’d better take good care of it.
Well, there’s many sports that I would like to have a crack at, but if I have to
choose one, that would be climbing. You know, I have always dreamt of climbing
Mount Fuji, which is the highest peak in Japan. I can’t imagine myself reaching
the summit and getting to admire the breathtaking view of the scenery below.
That would be absolutely amazing and I’ll be on top the world.
ART
1. Do you like art?
I have a lifelong passion for art since I was a child. Beside the official art class in
school, I also joined a drawing class in The Children’ House and my teachers were
very pleased with my drawings. I also participated in some drawing competitions
back then. Until now I still draw in my free time, although not as often as I used to
do.
2. Do you think art classes are necessary? (Why?)/3. How do you think art
classes affect children’s development?
Yes, definitely. Learning arts, especially at a young age, can help stimulate
children’s cognitive development and encourage them to think outside the box.
Because they’re still little, their ideas are very fresh and lovely, which is worth
appreciating.
Art is a really vast subject, I believe and if it is about drawing things here and
there, I would say I am pretty fine at it. But, I am surely not one of those who can
make some masterpieces. I think I am good at it, all thanks to the art classes that I
attended during my teen years. They were a great help during my growing years
and taught me lot of creativity. Now, I can easily draw simple day to day things
like pen or a face.
To tell you the truth, I have never visited art galleries before. Unless I have a guide
to acknowledge me, art galleries would be quite boring for me.
I think I must say it’s even challenging for a lot of people. I absolutely failed when
it comes to drawing still life paintings like fruit and flowers. I think for those who
succeed in drawing or arts in general, they first must have God-gifted talent, then
comes to the long-term commitment to arts that requires extreme practice and high
patience.
TRANSPORTATION
1. What’s the most popular means of transportation in your hometown?
When taking about the most common means of transportation in VietNam, I guess
it’s probably motorbikes. Approximately, each Vietnamesse adult possesses a
motorbike to commute more quickly and conveniently.
I hardly take the bus. In fact, it is usually dirty and over-crowded inside the bus.
Besides, I have got my own motorbike, so I have no reason to take the bus.
11
WATER
1. How often do you drink water?
I usually have at least 10 glasses of water daily. I drink when I’m thirsty and also
when I’m not.
12
ACCOMMODATION
1. Do you live in a house or an apartment?
Well, I’m living in a hall of resident in my university. I share the room with
another person so we do not have much private space. However, we can save a lot
of money because the rent is very reasonable and the room is fully furnished. In
addition, I also find living on campus convenient and safe.
Personally,

CLIMATE
1. What’s the weather like in your country?
Well, as you could probably tell, I’m currently residing in Vietnam, which is
a tropical country. When it comes to the weather here, for the most part, it’s
kinda scorching hot and humid year-round. I mean, there have been reports
about the heatwaves of over 40 degree celsius in Hanoi in recent year during
summer.
WATCHING FILM
Definitely yes, I’m really into watching films. Personally, my most favorite genre
of movie is blockbuster. I usually watch it with my friend whenever I have time.
You know, watching films is indispensable to me simply because it helps me relax
after a long day work.
I have confess that I prefer watching foreign films, such as Hollywood films.
Because most of them are well-acted with lots of famous celebrities. Meanwhile,
Vietnamese movies are quite low-budget and they are not as well as American
ones.
FRIENDS
Well, there are some specific attributes that make good friend. To me, a good
friend should be dependable and sincere who is always willing to do stupid things
with you and give you a lot of motivation to overcome fierce times. I usually don’t
get on well with over-sensitive or complicated people.
To be honest, I don’t stay in touch with a lot of my childhood friends. I’m quite an
introvert and somehow prudent in relationships, so I just talk to one old friend,
(name), in whom I can confide. We have known each other since primary school
and maintained this special bond till now
16
HISTORY
Wow, I am into reading history, not only of our country, Vietnam but also other
countries in the world. (Reason) History is not only a subject to me, it is also a
source of invaluable information about our origin as well as the victorious past of
our ancestors.
17
HEALTH
What do you do to stay healthy? (Bạn làm gì để sống khỏe mạnh?)
Well, I try to stay away from junk food, and I hit the gym on the daily basis.
(Reason) Doing excercises regularly does wonders for not only my physical but
also mental health and it really helps me to unwind after work.
Personally, I alternate between hitting the gym or taking gentle exercise at home.
On days when I have more free time, then I like to exert myself by running on
treadmills and lifting weights at the fitness centre, while on busier days, a simple
morning jog or yoga at home would do.
Actually, I do have some in my mind right now. Firstly, I’m considering taking up
a sport, something like boxing, but only for leisure and not competitively.
Additionally, I plan to maintain my current fitness regime in order not to be out of
condition.
I suppose yes. Being fit rather than being skinny is a mindset that is recently
catching on in my country. Therefore, many young people are trying to incorporate
physical activities into their daily routine as well as adopting healthy eating habits
to achieve their dream figure.
