“Advantages and disadvantages of owning a car“

Transport is what gives us access to almost every place in the world and every individual
decides what option is the most convenient and suitable based on his needs and financial situation.
Nowadays it would be difficult to find a family, who does not own a car(especially in major cities), and it
confirms the fact that automobile has probably become the most dominant form of transportation. But before
choosing a car as your main mean of transport, it is not only important to realize all the beneficial and
advantageous things but also to be aware of harmful consequences it is going to bring.
Most people often claim that the greatest advantage of having a car is that it gives you freedom
to travel not only wherever you want to but most importantly – whenever you prefer to. Some people point
out that a car gives an excitement about road trips and vacations and it can take you to the top-ratted tourit
attractions without needing to book bus tickets or searching for a person with a driver’s license. It gives you
an opportunity to be independent, while not worrying about being late for school or work because of a bus
that was driving too slow or did not show up at all. A car saves your time and it can take you to places much
faster than other means of transportation.Besides that, many say that owning a car provides comfort while
travelling because you do not have to worry about being crushed to other passengers in crowded public
transportation. You can also listen to loud music or an audiobook without being concerned about what other
people might think and disturbing their peace. What is more, not owning a car can be a big problem in
urgent and emergency situations, especially if you live in a smaller city or even village, which often does not
have any taxis, ubers or night buses. Additionally, it would be a struggle to bring heavy bags or furniture
back home if you would have to do this by foot or pay a courier to deliver it to you but a car is a perfect
option for its adaptability and ability to save your effort. Also, having a car is a big advantage while
searching for a job – many employers prefer workers, who own a car, and it is also way more easier to reach
your workplace if you do have a car.
For the above mention reasons it may seem that car is an ideal transportation solution but no
matter how practical and flexible a car is, it indeed has some disadvantages. Needless to say, almost
everyone would agree that the biggest one is that buying a car is expensive but owning it costs even more.
Plenty of people say that not everyone can afford getting their driving license ( not to mention the fact that it
is difficult and takes quite a lot of time) but paying for fuel, antifreeze, road tax, maintenance costs,
insurance and car repairing is what makes you reconsider if you are being paid enough to own a car. Another
significant disadvantage is that owning a car clearly causes a long-term effect to the environment and most
importantly- huge damage to your health and people around you. Cars emit carbon dioxide and other
greenhouse gases, which cause pollution, global warming and acid rain and all of this could be avoided if
people would use cars less and bicycles more.Furthermore, since people live in an urban environment, they
usually face a problem of constantly being stuck in a traffic, which could be solved if they would own a bike
or go by their foot. In addition to this, car needs a parking space and it is not always easy to find one, not
even mentioning that it also costs. Finally, many drivers claim that travelling by car is not so comfortable for
a driver, especially if a trip is long and exhausting because he is responsible for every person sitting in his
car and he always has to be focused on the road, which means he can not relax.
Nowadays cars are almost everywhere since cities are expanding and it became the most
common mean of transportation, used in our everyday lives .Even before getting my driving license I
noticed that a car is way more convenient than other forms of transport because of flexibility, adaptation,
comfort, speed and freedom it provides. Although I got my license recently, I already noticed that it also has
its imperfections, such as big costs, pollution and discomfort in long trips. Every person, who is planning to
buy a car, should decide for himself, based on his daily routine and finances, and ask himself an important
question - do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
