1.Construct a timeline of reforms implemented by the Spanish colonial
government in the 19th century. Identify important events in the life of Jose Rizal and
locate these events in the timeline you constructed. How did the reforms
implemented by the Spanish colonial regime in the 19th century relate to the
experiences of Rizal and his family? Attached to the module is a template where you
can put your answers.

19th Century during the Spanish Colonial Government


1808 The empire of France was taken over by Napoleon Bonaparte and his brother was
proclaimed king of Spain.
1809The British Government acknowledges Ferdinand VII as King of Spain.1810The
war between Spain and Mexico had begun.1812The Constitution of Cadiz has been
enforced.
1814Returningto relativism, King Ferdinand VII cleared the constitution of the Court of
Cadiz and retrieved the throne of Joseph Bonaparte
1815The trade in goods under Galleon, Manila and Acapulco ceased where the
products had taken almost 3 months to arrive to their destination at that time when
the product crossed the Asia-Pacific region.
1821The Spanish colonization in Mexico was set free but the Philippines remained a
colony of Spain.
1830Isabel II was born, the only daughter of Ferdinand VII and Maria Cristina
de Borbon.
1833King Ferdinand died, but the throne was retained by Maria Cristina de Borbon,
which led to a civil war against Don Carlos.
1834The irrigation of the Royal Company using the port of Manila led the Philippines to
open for trade to foreign countries.
1836The court's decision was opposed by Don Carlos to assert that the person who
owned the throne was necessary.
1840The Car list Second War has ended.
1846At the age of 13, Isabella II was formally crowned as the Queen of Spain.
1848Streamships such as Magallanes and El Cano have arrive
1855Alfonso XII was born, the son of Isabel II.
1868Prime Minister Francisco Dominguez dismissed the throne of Isabella II.
1869The opening of the Suez Canal in Egypt boosted exports and shortened the period
of time to travel between the Philippines and Spain.
1872The 3rdCarlist War had started; The 3 martyr priests (GomBurZa) namely
Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora were executed using the
“garrote” for the reason of the Cavite mutiny.
1873Routes were set between Spain and the Philippines.
1874Alfonso XII was crowned
1876Spain created the new constitution known as Constitutional Monarchy; King
Alphonsus XII governed the Monarchy; the 3rdCarlist War came to an end.
1885A campaign for the equality between the Spanish and Filipinos was founded as a
reform, rather than as a colony, as a province of Spain.
1898Spain offered up the Philippines to America, agreement that was signed by
between the Spanish and American government was the Treaty of Paris.

what were the reasons did Rizal not place a title for his last work?
