Abstract: In the new technology controlling electrical appliances using computer with the help of internet is
possible. By university and industrial controlling we have electrical appliances all over the world hence it gives a
more space at a home. So we can used Internet of Things to control many devices such as light, ac, cooler Fan,
computer, security system and etc. It reduces human efforts and power efficiency. The main objective of internet of
things is used to help specially challenged people and old age people to control electrical appliances and security
purpose. Internet of things is very useful for these people in emergency situations. There are two ways to accessing
this WIFI connectivity (or) it is connected to a router. This process is done in low cost & controlling many devices
in a simple circuit.
Keyword: Internet of Things, WIFI, 8051 microcontroller, S- Remote control

1. INTRODUCTION

The Internet of things consist of device, buildings, object and vehicle installed with sensors and internet connectivity that
ready these object to collect and interchange data. The IoT allows objects to be The IoT allows objects to be feel and
command passing across actual network framework, creating opportunities for more open union of the physical world into
computer based system and result in enhanced ability, certainty and economic benefit; when Internet of things is enlarge
with sensors and actuators, the technology becomes example of the more general class of cyber physical systems, which
also surrounded by technologies such as smart environment as smart environment frame work, smart homes, clever carrier
and smart cities. Each things is exceptional recognizable through its fix computing system but is able to practical within
the alive internet infrastructure. Experts judge that the internet of things will consist of almost 50 billion objects by 2020.
IoT devices can be used to observe and control mechanical, electrical and electronics systems used in various types of
buildings such as private and public building, industrial building or residential buildings in home automation. IoT devices
can be used to monitor the health of a patient [5].

2. ENABLING TECHNOLOGIES FOR IOT

[a] RFID & near field conveyance

In the 2000s, RFID was the supreme technology. Later, NFC became supreme (NFC). NFC have become common in
mobile during the 2010s, with uses such as reading NFC label entrance to public transportation.

[b] Optical label and quick response code

This is used for low cost. Mobile camera solves using image processing technology. In real world QR advertisement
campaigns gives less audience need to have another application to read QR codes.
[c] Bluetooth low energy

This is one of the latest technologies. All newly liberate android phone have BLE hardware in them. Label based on BLE
can signal their existence at a power budget that allows them to control for up to one year on a lithium coil cell battery.

[d] Low energy wireless IP networks

Implant radio in system on a chip designs, lower power Wi-Fi, sub-GHz radio in an ISM band flatten version of IPv6
called 6LowPAN.

[e] ZigBee
This communication technology is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol to apply physical and MAC layer for low-rate
wireless Private Area Networks. Some of its main feature like low power consumption, low data rate, low cost, and high
message throughput make it an interesting IoT promoter technology.

[f] Z-Wave
Z-Wave is a communication protocol that is mostly used in smart home appliances applications.

[g] LTE-Advanced
LTE-Advanced is a high-speed communication designation for mobile networks. Compared to its original LTE, LTE-
Advanced has been revised to have enlarged coverage, higher throughput and lower intermission. One important
application of this technology is Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communications.

3. PROPOSED SYSTEM

Fig. 1 describes the various layers in Internet of Things architecture of the designed system including the various
technologies used in the prototype. The system consists of a computer server with a internet connection, a modem
connecting the server to the external network, a 8051 microcontroller with a hardwired application connected to the
devices. The prototype system supports two-level devices that only need to be switched on or off.

Figure 1.Block diagram of the Proposed System

The IoT-based architecture provides high level adjustability at the communication and information. It is an approach
which is correlated in many different environments such as patient monitoring system, security, traffic signal control or
controlling various applications. The Internet of Things project aims to bring out the various opportunities of using IPv6
and other related standards to overcome the disadvantages using of the Internet of Things . The IoT projects proves a
effective and thorough study of all practical functionalities, mechanisms and various protocols that can be used for
building IoT architectures however interconnections may occur between all totally different IoT applications. As in the
networking field, where several solutions appear at his beginning to leave place to a common model, the TCP/IP protocol
suite, the development of a common reference model for the IoT domain and the identification of reference architectures
can lead to a faster, more focused development and an expanding increase of IoT-related solutions. These solutions can
provide a strategic advantage to fully grown economies, as new business models can advantage those technological
solutions providing room for economic development. Some shields communicate with the 8051 Microcontroller directly
over various pins, but many shields are individually addressable via an I²C serial bus—so many shields can be stacked and
used in parallel. Before 2018, Official 8051 had used the Atmel mega 8051 series of chips, specifically the 89S51. Figure
2 shows the Microcontroller used in the proposed project.

4. INTERCONNECTED HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

In this project uses four switches to demonstrate the respective failure of that power supply. When any of the switches is
pressed it shows the absence of that particular source, switches are connected to microcontroller as input signals. A
microcontroller of 8051 family is used. The output of microcontroller is given to the relay driver IC, which switches
appropriate relay to maintain uninterrupted supply to the load. The output shall be observed using a lamp drawing power
supply from mains initially. On failure of the mains supply (which is actuated by pressing the appropriate switch) the load
gets supply from the next available source, say an inverter. If the inverter also fails it switches over to the next available
source and so on. The current status, as to which source supplies the load is also displayed on an LCD. As it is not feasible
to provide all 4 different sources of supply, one source with alternate switches are provided to get the same function. The
project can be further enhanced by using other sources like wind power also and then taking into consideration for using
the best possible power whose tariff remains lowest at that moment.

S-Remote Control is an app that allows you to control devices through a network, WI-FI & 3G. S-Remote Control decides
which devices and how they are controlled. You will be able to customize buttons to send the appropriate command to the
device in a quick and easy way. The setup menu can be protected with a password to avoid user modification or visibility
of private information in the commands. To access this setup menu put your finger on the icon in the screen, and keep it
there for a predetermined time (the user can modify this time property, by default it is 0 second).
Functionalities

• Control functions on any kind of device over IP/UDP/TCP protocols.

• Three kind of controls, Buttons, Check Boxes (switch function) and Bar to control position of items.
• Several functions at the same time on a device.
• Any kind of command, ASCII or HEX.
• Customize the text of each control.

5. CONCLUSION AND FUTURE WORK

This paper characterized the various components and technologies used in a system to monitor and control home
appliances and devices remotely using a smart mobile phone. This project is proposed to lead us a step closer toward a
smart home appliances where all appliances and devices are steadily controlled and monitored remotely. It combines a
number of technologies to build the complete hardware and software system. There are a number of possible delays to this
work such as: support multimedia devices and services through MMS (Multimedia Message Service); boost wireless
coverage within the home through a mix of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies. Many of the issues are being joined in the
prototype system.
