Question 1:
The water in a tank is pressurized by air, and the pressure is measured
by a multifluid manometer as shown here. Determine the gage
pressure of air in the tank if h1 = 0.2 m, h2 = 0.3 m and h3= 0.46 m.
Take the densities of water, oil and mercury to be 1000 kg/m3, 850
kg/m3 and 13600 kg/m3 respectively.
Question 2:
Calculate the absolute pressure P1 for the system presented here if
the atmospheric pressure is 758 mm Hg.
Question 3:
For the measurement of small pressure differences, the
arm of the manometer can be inclined to improve the
sensitivity of the reading. The manometer presented here
is inclined 35° from the horizontal. The density of the
liquid is 0.81 kg/L and the vertical distance between the
fluid levels in the two arms of the manometer is 8 cm.
Determine the gage pressure of the air in the duct and the
length (L) of the fluid column in the inclined arm.
Question 4:
A closed system consisting of 5 kg of a gas undergoes a process during which the relationship between pressure
and specific volume is pv1.3 = constant. The process begins with p1 = 1 bar and v1 = 0.2 m3/kg and ends with p2 =
0.5 bar. Determine the final volume in m3 and plot the process on a graph of pressure versus specific volume.
