1. Raymundo Favila:
He was elected as Academician in 1979. He is one of the people
who initiated mathematics in the Philippines. He had extensive
contributions to the progression of mathematics in the country.
He has made fundamental studies such as on stratifiable
congruence’s and geometric inequalities. He is co-authored
textbooks in algebra and trigonometry.
2. Amador Muriel:
This mathematician was known due to his significant works and
contributions to theoretical physics. He has made new kinetic
equation which is essential for discovering problems on a
statistical method that is non-equilibrium. He discovered the
exact and approximate solutions for the behavior of a two level
system which were considered by his peers as a pioneering
contribution to a quantum tubing machine now a growing field in
the quantum computing.
3. Bienvenido F. Nebres:
Dr. Nebres contributed much to the development of higher
mathematics teaching in the nation being the president of
Mathematical Society of the Philippines for years. He has
successfully published 15 documents about pure mathematics
and mathematics education. He was one of the founding officers
of the Southeast Asian Mathematical Society (SEAMS) also in
1972.In 2011, he was named national scientist of the
Philippines upon the recommendation of the National Academy
of Science & Technology.
4. Tito A. Mijares:
This doctor performs studies in relation to multi-variety
hypothesis and analysis. These were published in the Annals of
Mathematical Statistics, a global journal.
.
5. Gregorio Y. Zara
He became famous for his two-way television telephone and the
Zara Effect or the electrical kinetic resistance.
Some of his contributions are:
He improved methods of producing solar energy including
creating new designs for a solar water heater (SolarSorber);
A sun stove, and a solar battery (1960s);
Invented a propeller-cutting machine (1952);
He designed a microscope with a collapsible stage;
helped design the robot Marex X-10;
Invented the two-way television telephone or videophone (1955)
patented as a "photo phone signal separator network";
Invented an airplane engine that ran on plain alcohol as fuel
(1952);
9. Eduardo Padlan
He was elected as Academician in 2003. He has significant work
on humanized antibodies which have possible applications in the
healing of different diseases including cancer. He has fourteen
granted and pending patents on various aspects and uses of
antibodies. He has contributed to the strengthening of s & t in our
country in the fields of molecular biology and immunology
through the training of researches and teaching several
universities during his regular visits to the country.
10. Jose A. Marasigan
He is a multi-awarded professor here and abroad. He has
received awards like Young Mathematician Grant of the
International Mathematical Union (IMU) to the International
Congress of Mathematicians (Finland) and the Outstanding
Young Scientist Award from the National Academy of Science
and Technology. He also initiated the Program of Excellence in
Mathematics for mathematically gifted high school students in
Ateneo de Manila.in 1989, he spearheaded the program of
excellence in math to train talented students. -in 2002, he
became chair of the board of judges in the annual Ateneo math
Olympiad. -he served as chair of the Ateneo math department
and headed the math and operations research division of the
national research council of the Philippines.
