Floppy Diskette

A floppy disk, also known as a diskette, is a small magnetic storage device that was commonly used to store programs, files, and documents on computers. Floppy disks could hold up to 1.44 megabytes of data and were installed by default on many computers. While floppy disks have been replaced by flash drives, they were vulnerable to damage from magnetic fields, temperature changes, bending, chemicals, and viruses spreading between computers.

Floppy Diskette

A diskette is a small storage device and it is in the computers.  Diskette is also known as the floppy disk.
It is usually a magnetic medium and it can store up to 1.44 megabytes (MB) of data.  Today many of the
computers come with the pre installed 3.5-inch diskette drive.

Diskettes are commonly used storing the small programs, data files and documents.   The store capacity
of the floppy disk depends that whether it is a high-density or double-density diskette.  Another type of
the disk is the magneto-optical (MO) and it is most popular for mass storage, backup and archiving. MO
can store many times more data than the diskette.

In the recent times, the diskette has been replaced by the flash drives. The following factors can affect the
diskette’s working.

 Magnetic fields.
 Excessive temperature.
 Flexing or bending.
 Solvents or other reactive chemicals.
 Excessive amounts of dust, smoke, or other pollutants.
 Touching the magnetic surfaces.
 Removal of the disk from a drive while in use.

The most common side effect of using the diskette or floppy disk is that it can spread the viruses from one
computer to another.
